Hi All After coming from the harley riding at thumping low revs have found it hard to ride the 899 at high revs, and im not sure if its just the noise...... Below 5k very compliant but somewhat less responsive and after a good ride today I found myself what i thought was revving the tits off it at 5k plus revs but she went alot better! Assume this is normal and I just need to adapt my style and wear ear plugs......?
They are much easier to ride high up the range. The 899 lump loves to be revved mate! 5k is nothing. They only start smoothing out at around 6 I'd say. It's likely a case that you are just used to low revving tractor motors you will see the light buddy. Don't be too quick to change up, twins are awful when you ride around in the wrong gear !
I hear you but have always been guided by the dB ! Guess its time to close out the termi and wear the plugs. Definately noticed that changing hear/tbrottle on at 3-4k tevs puts the bike under strain for a short while. Maybe some larger grips may also help as I find myself relaxing and loosing the "death grip" lol but running out if wrist...
899 really gets into its stride beyond 6k. Love the change in induction/exhaust note. If you potter round 5k or below your on the wrong bike Spike. Yes get those ear plugs in and give it some revs. The bike will thank you for it. I say this having just run mine in from new. Now I can use the full rev range it's simply superb. JS
I found changing the setting in the engine mode to high in sports mode made it smoother and having "big" hands I put a pair of grip puppies over the stock grips....much better now
The bike is definitely most smooth in the highest throttle mode 'high' if u want to keep the safety then set the traction control high ish in these modes. Honestly though, I can't believe people don't wear ear plugs these days, I never thought I could, even made excuses about it throwing my balance off, then I got used to them and now can't even ride to the shops without them. That said it means that I run with no baffles out so that it's about the exhaust note and not all the other engine noise. If u want to ride the bike at lower revs u should consider a bigger rear sprocket to make low rev riding even smoother
Earplugs in today and teh revs rise naturally! Found myself riding faster but smoother and more confident generally being able to concentrate on the road rather than pushing the poise out of my ears As you all said it rides alot smoother anove the 5k mark .....made me a happier person on the way to work ans home today
