Hi Guys, Any of you notice the rubber boot on the gear lever selector wearing out quickly on the outer edge? After 600 miles it looked a mess! I got the dealer to replace mine on its first service as it was splitting on the outer edge and after my recent 1200 mile tour around Scotland (Inverness 500+) it's just about to metal again. I was more conscious to make sure my full toe was spread properly but no difference than last time. I bought a spare on eBay but wonder if there is a tougher one out there?
That would be the gear change rubber then, judging by the fact that my 2000 mile MTS which I picked up about 3 weeks ago is also wearing out
Mine split at 1400mls it's got duct tape around it at the minute new one being fitted Tuesday also asked for a couple of spares
Mine is wearing thin too. I put it down to the strange angle of the end of the lever - it means your toe touches the lever on the angle rather than on the flat.
It's just the nature of the lever angle. You can put a tougher rubber and wear out your boot, or just replace it periodically
Self-amalgamating tape might be more effective than duct tape. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Self-Amal...388505?hash=item2377c70ad9:g:7jMAAOSwiONYOgN9
Thanks for all the feedback guys, I know this one is a small niggle, but frustrating to see something wear down so quickly - just never had this basic issue on previous bikes.
Well I'm at 20 k miles and it's a bit worn but perfectly functional, as I'm sure the large majority out there so this would come down to shifting style or a boot that's particularly hard on it. Either way, it's not a Ducati problem of concern
Mine went at 3500 miles. Likewise never had this happen on any other bike. Just a poorly designed gear lever as it has an edge unlike most others which have a round peg sticking out from the lever allowing the rubber to revolve, resulting in even wear and no splitting.
That's a matter of opinion TaskMule, if the gentleman is changing gear with his foot, in the normal manner, then surely it is a Ducati problem.
