Salutations to all rugby fans, As Les Bleus will be starting their first prep session this Monday (3 July), I thought it might be a good time to start this thread. Can’t wait for the preparation matches scheduled in August, as an appetizer. I understand the Auld Alliance will be honored again as Scotland and France will meet twice during this period. As a French supporter, I can’t begin to tell you how excited I am that we are hosting this one. Go, go, go!!
Mate, what a privilege it is, as the hosts, to get to play the Blacks as the grand opening game… A bit like being a Lord entitled to Prima Nocte with a young maiden…
Went to the final in Johannesburg in 1995. Not the best seats at the top of the stadium, but could just about touch the Jumbo at flew over my head. What a day I will never forget.
All Blacks have a new Jersey for the World Cup, designed by a Frenchman. But apparently France/NZ Rugby flipped a coin, and we won the right to wear our home jersey in the opener. Bit jittery about the opener as we have a somewhat patchy record of playing France in World Cups.
I specifically remember a certain final in Auckland in 2011… That was freaking close. As we say in French, you guys felt the wind of the cannon ball, that day…
Those last 10 minutes were painful. Les Bleus had everything to win this but made so many poor decisions in the last 10… Thank God this was only our C Team playing Scotland A Team…
Did not see either of this afternoons games. But followed along via updates from mates and brothers. Early days for all. Very pleased to even think that Gat is Back. Might even go next Saturday now.
Those two games where Fidji and SA mauled England and NZ were quite a shocker. That being said, watching Fidji play their instinctive rugby is so pleasant and spectacular. Like Italy when they keep their heads cold. I read Samoa scared the crap out of Ireland… Over here, we can’t wait for tonight’s game against Australia. We have great hopes about this Blue squad. The entire country, federation and clubs are behind them. La Rochelle played in blue yesterday to honor them.
The shit thing about rugby is that it’s predictable. There’s never a shocking result. Like say football or boxing. In rugby, the best team wins. Sure, there can be tight games when teams are fairly evenly matched but by and large, the better team prevails. What I know about rugby could be written on the back of a postage stamp. So here goes- South Africa will win the World Cup. Boom….
