Running in

  1. Just had the 600 mile service today so was looking forward to giving it the beans.......hang on a minute the manual says I have to do another 1000 miles at 8000rpm!!!!!

By recommended does that mean only if you want to or goodbye warranty if you dont?

  2. how will they know.

  3. they're watching.

  4. Something in the ECU?

  5. Ride it like you stole it!! there bench test more than that before they leave the Factory but you never know the running in POLICE might come

  6. on car ecu's fiats anyway it does count over revs.

  7. Its an expensive toy, so just do what you feel comfortable with. To be honest, if you're at 8000 rpm in pretty much any gear, you'll be in danger of losing your licence so you wont be short of thrills.

Persoanlly, I cant seen any harm in sticking to the book for the first 600 miles as it gives time for everything to bed in...not just the engine. After that, just gradually keep increasing the revs for the next 400 miles.

Probably more pertinent in the first few hundred miles, but hard deceleration is the best way to seat piston rings. This is best achieved by turning off the EBC (feels odd for road use anyway) and come off the throttle quickly to create a nice big fat back pressure in the cylinder. This will draw oil up onto the cylinder walls cooling the rings and washing the loose metal particles away.

If you remember, I...ahem..finished running in my 848 at Brands Hatch :)

  8. I had my done last week also, tbh I am just riding it 'normally'... that is to say that I ride it up to about 9,500-10k rpm a few times during a ride but not until maybe a long way in when the oil is at max operating temp and I am really careful how I warm it up.

I started revving it to around 8k rpm every now and again from around 450miles and the bike felt noticeably more 'free' and smoother, I genuinely think a few more revs helped it. With fresh oil it feels really punchy now.

  9. After my 621 mile service I was advised by my dealer to increase the rev limit by 1k every 100 odd miles. He stated this would be fine for the warranty, and said it could be checked as it could all be recorded on the ecu techno thingy. I did this and the bike pulls like Rachael Riley at a viagra conference, with no smoke.
