Rustled Horses!

  1. Hi people,

I recently swapped out a 750 motor for a age equivalent 900 motor on a carb Ducati Monster (project to be posted up soon).... It runs well, but after Dyno testing and opening airbox etc, it's producing around 67hp at the wheel. That's 750 territory!

I left it running on 750 carbs, which were rejetted by the tuning company, because it was pulling fine and there was no reliable info to highlight the differences between the 750 & 900 carbs. I did change the air inlet tubes and exhaust headers to 900 ones.

I have also left the CDI's and ignition electrics as standard 750 ones, again assuming there is no difference in specification. The bike has been fully serviced and has new belts.

So, is there anything obvious that I should check to find those missing horses before pulling things apart again...?

    Cheers!

  2. They both use the same carbs but as you say jetting is different, 900 intake manifolds are larger bore, so no problems there. Does it have 'V2' or 'W' heads? (stamped on the side).

  3. I may be wrong but I think the cdi units are different.

  4. Whats it like in the rest of the rev range?Must be a lot more grunt, yes?

  5. W heads...

  6. Doesn't feel hugely different... It's a tricky one to call because it's been about 6 months between running 750 & 900 upgrade. I wondered whether a worn clutch might be an issue. Would seem unlikely given the mileage of 14,000 on the replacement engine.

  7. I had a hunch the spec was different, having owned a '96 M900 in the past. Ever regret selling something?? Anyway, it sounds, looks and feels great, so it looks like this project will continue into the distant future :grinning:

  8. Okay, for anyone stumbling on this thread again... I took the bike out again today and something just didn't feel right. Noise and urge is there but power lacks. Took the clutch apart this afternoon and found every friction plate below minimum thickness.

Hopefully a new set will make a bit of difference! Doubt it'll be 10hp, but a bit more would be nice!
