Hi all, Newbie from Nantwich with a 2006 Monster S2r, the forks appear to be non adjustable and pretty pants. I notice the forks on the S4r are Ohlins, are they a straight swap, will any other models fit as well ? I also have a friend who has the classic looking ducati cafe racer who's forks look very similar, he says you can get a kit from america that gives you some adjustability, is there something that can be done to the standard forks to make them better ?
Hiya. You can make anything fit ,if your hammer is big enough!I think ohlins forks use a slightly different sizing on the yokes. There are several suspension firms out there that can rebuild your forks to suit you, though peeps will be along shortly to advise on forks that can swap over.
The ohlins fit with the matching fork yokes and handlebars. Have a word with Maxton about options to rework your forks. They can insert adjustable damping and matched springing to suit your weight and riding. Outside finishes too for a little bling. You may want to look at the front brake too as that’s a bit “budget” on the S2R.
Nice looking Monster by the way. Maxton are here: https://www.maxtonsuspension.co.uk/files/bdp_forkconversions.htm
Take a look at this thread on UKMOC about upgrading suspension on an S2R. http://www.ukmonster.co.uk/monster/showthread.php?t=57029&highlight=Fork+cartridge
Thanks, just need to get it to handle, much better than when i bought it already, It was trying to kill me everytime I rode it !! I have emailed Maxton, Thanks again !!
I had an S2r and put the S4 forks on it (with the S4 yoke) - they were much better than the originals. But If I were you, I would contact Kais suspension in Atherton and see what they could do - they are magicians with suspension and can probably replace the internals for you.
Thanks, was that the S4 or the Ohlins from the S4rs does the front wheel axle still work ? I have contacted Maxtons, thats looking about £800 + vat for the full monty cartridge fitted
Not the Ohlins - just S4 forks, but they were miles better than the originals. I also changed the rear shock and put a Wilburs one on on. It would be definitely be worth phoning Kais to see if there is anything they could do https://www.kais-ohlins.co.uk/
Can’t for a minute imagine that the mighty design team behind Ducati would produce a bike with ‘ pretty pants’ suspension. Are you sure this is the bike/ biking is for you. Welcome by the way.
Thanks Guys, After riding for getting on for 50 years Carr01 I reckon it's in my blood especially coming from a Biking family !!
