Last night my council decided to salt the roads here just outside Cambridge . This morning i woke up to a clear sky, no frost and it is already 9 degrees ! The warmest day this year here. What planet do they live on dare i take the Old girl out for a spin ....... and risk salt :frown: no so now i have to wait for it to all wash away again..... bloody typical.
Don't forget Dave the other road users who are at risk from black ice as night time temperatures drop to below freezing, these motorists including us would be put at risk of accidents if it was not for the salt, have some patients my friend spring will soon be here
Oddly, the local Sainsburys salted their car park last night, the first time I've ever seen them do it in the 12 years I've lived here. Two weeks ago, when there was 6" of snow and old grannies sliding all over the bloody place the manager told me it was not company policy to clear the car park as it would make them liable for any claims. Now he's changed his mind, obviously. I wonder if it had anything to do with me calling him a spineless twat...
If you really reckon the salt would have already washed away, sorry to disappoint. The stuff is ground in with the passage of thousands and thousands of wheels, it will take several weeks of rain to make any impact on the mess, the roads still look clean and white because of that reason. If you do get out at this time of year wash bike properly upon return home.
dont wash it!!!!!!! best thing is after use put bike into garage and once a week spray lightly with salted water. these bikes are so well built that you will find this helps. you have not been charged for this advice.
just council staff getting some guaranteed over time in, gritting whether it needs it or not, it's the same round here.
took your advice.........opened the garage today......... and I now am the proud owner of a pair of Pirelli rosso tyres, that's all that's left
Get out and ride the thing. Its what bikes are made for. It only takes half and hour to wash it when you get back.
If you're smart, you still have a thick layer of dirt on the bike left over from before the winter. The salt doesn't even touch the bike then! You have been charged for this advise, what ya gonna do?
Technically they have to make the car park safe by law, they have to clear disabled, mother and toddler spaces etc. if the manager had any common sense he would have payed some local guy with a JCB to clear the whole car park, would have increased his sales to. Also he would have had to grit the car park as well, he would have a load of salt sat in his warehouse. My guess he was a lazy B. or a spineless twat.
I never used to ride my bike if there was a hint of Salt but on weekends like the one that's just passed you have to get out. The roads round here weren't too bad tbh, a bit white in places but no loose salt. Went out sat and sun covering about 100 miles. Got home home from work today, and I couldn't see any obvious signs of salt on bike at all. Just gave it a wipe down with warm water and a microfibre. Quick detail on the paint and rims and looks good as new. If we wait till May and have a shite summer again, before we know it they'll be condemned to the garage for another 6 months. I'm hoping to get the first service out the way on the monster before summer so I can open it up properly but today they gritted so much is was like a beach, never mind corrosion it'll be your lid that needs replacing if you ride over that stuff.
