Salvage Companies In Uk

Discussion in 'Sport Touring' started by stelbo, May 5, 2023.

  1. Good morning gents,
I need your assistance in finding a motor salvage company that might have an engine part I am looking for.
I damaged the front piston of my bike an ST4s 2005 996cc, and I need a used piston complete with rings and pin to replace it. It is the same as from 996s or from an S4R. If any one knows of a reputable company please let me know.
    Thank you
    Stelios

  2. Pretty sure that breakers generally tend to sell engines complete rather than break them for component parts. I guess if the engine itself is damaged you may find one who has though. I wish you good luck with your search.

  3. Thank you for the response.
No, I was lucky enough, and the only thing that was damaged was the piston with the rings.
    Thanks again

  4. Thanks a lot.
Unfortunately this pair is coming from a 916 motor. Mine is a 996 cc, with od 98mm.

  5. Sorry, I meant that salvage yards might break an engine for parts only if a significant part of the whole assembly is damaged. Be that accident damage of mechanical failure.

@duke63's post indicates that they're are individual engine parts out there.

  6. Have you tried DesmoMarket in Italy?

  7. No problem Bumpkin. It was meant well.
Bigiimmyb, not yet, I will do now. Thank you for the suggestion.

  8. Chris, I have been watching e bay all over the world. I have found nothing suitable up until now. I will try your suggestion, though it seems to come from a 916 cc motor, and the seller does not specify shipping to Greece. I need to ask them.
Than you very much for your time.

  9. Chris, just to confirm that I contacted your suggestion and he verified that it is from a 916cc motor. Thank you for your time.

  10. I have seen them both. The second more reasonably priced, does not seem in very good condition. The rings seem to be scuffed.
For the first one, I am not really certain, since he has not that many photos so that I can check the condition of the piston.
But I appreciate very much your effort.

  11. re: 2nd listing - neither of us can really know without holding piston in hand and looking first hand, but poor presentation and photography are playing a part in this picture, the marks on top ring could be water droplets/oil (you could ask for more pictures) and the slight matting on rings would not stop me fitting necessarily and the main"plus" you can take from that picture is that piston skirt shows general wear is acceptable for a second-hand piston.

  12. Surely buying second hand pistons is a bit like buying second hand condoms.

can’t imagine many breakers getting down to that level of component breakage.

worth contacting some specialists as someone might have something sat on a dusty shelf

  13. Chris, on a second examination the info that the seller is providing is not true. The cylinder and piston comes from a 916cc engine. He states it to be from a 996 or S4r. The piston diam. of the 996 is 97.8mm and the cylinder bore is 98mm.
I have double checked the figures.

  14. Advikaz, thanks for the suggestion.
If you happen to have the contact details of such a company, please let me know.

well, not really if you know what you're looking at, (the pistons/rings that is) but each to their own. :)
Have fitted 2nd hand car pistons on my own and others people's cars for most my life.

Goes without saying that new is your (possible) best choice for overall longevity.

  16. you are so right, and a true anorak would have spotted this.

  17. Sorry but I am not aware of the expression "true anorak".
Of course I know what an anorak is. (LOL)
