Hi all. Readying for touring this year. What's the best Sat Nav? We have just fitted a Garmin zumo 390lm to my pals sx1000 with a very neat bracket fixed directly to the brake/switch gear. This cannot happen on my Multi as the set up is different. So what's best? Is there a bracket on the market? Where's best to mount it,above the clocks would be nice? I have the touring screen. Thanks in advance, safe riding!
Check out andyw website, got loads of info on nav fitment. I use a combination of my phone and a garmin car one, on a ram mount fitted to the bars. I dont have BT headset so its a watch the screen jobbie so not ideal, but cheap (had the nav and ram mounts, the case cost about £15) and does what I need it do do. Plus being garmin you can make routes up offline and load up to the unit.
I'll second this. Get the correct Navihalter bracket, the 3 & 4 bolt screen is different. I've got the 3 bolt (2010-2013 one for sale). Navihalter Sat Nav Bracket 2013 Multistrada | Ducati Forum This puts it above the clocks and makes it just visible from the front on the Pikes Peak screen. I use a 590LM , though its more than a satnav for me. Its a hub for my music, phone and tyre pressure sensors also. I changed from a 660LM. Both units got me through about 3k miles of Europe last year without missing a beat. The 660 is still being sold and is the better value unit in my opinion as it is most definitely still an extremely capable device.
I also use a Garmin Zumo 660 with the Naviholter mounting. I brought the Zumo 660 back in 2010 and it's still OK apart from not booting properly every time on power up. I've used the Naviholter mounting brackets on both 2010 and 2013 Multistradas - they put the sat nav in the perfect location above the "clocks". I don't like the audible route reminders, so turned them off and now just look at the screen.
Thanks for all your replies, i have been looking at this 151624596478 on ebay. Garmin 390lm with handle bar centre clamp mount. Does this obscure the bike dash?
If you intend using a tank bag at any stage I'd certainly go for the Navihalter. I've tried both methods, handlebar mounted and Navihalter, and the latter is by far the best solution IMHO.
Handlebar mounted does get in the way a bit, if I were buyng new stuff I'd have the navi above the clocks fitting
When I bought my Multi in December it already had a DP Garmin Zumo fitted. It's a good setup and doesn't obstruct any view of the clocks, need to use it a bit more but on first impressions I like it. Just bought a pair or Scala Bluetooth headsets to pair with it but they haven't even been out of the box yet, looking forward to using them together.
...Hi yellowtechie, where is yours mounted then? Handle bars or above the clocks? I will not be using a tank bag as I have the GT Mutley so I ain't short of luggage space! Cheers
Thanks for info, however I have the 2013 gt .With this bracket can you still have access to the screen adjuster, I realise you don't need to adjust it often. Would be good to see a side view? Is there an English importer for this bracket? Cheers mate.
VJ, I have a full luggage set on my pikes peak too so no worrying about a tank bag. The placement is right in the middle of the bars like: Multistrada 1200 SatNav (1/3) - A closer look at the Ducati DP GPS SatNav (rebadged Garmin Nuvi) and Ducati handlebar mount. Unless you have the replacement handlebar top clamp missing, rendering the rest of the kit unusable!!! Jon.
Ah, that looks a decent set up. I think if you dont need a tankbag than this is a better set up by keeping the screen clear. Is that a zumo 660? I'm contemplating the 390lm with this set up. Cheers vj
I cant find a pic of mine bit fits just like that last one, except I used some cable ties to hold the ram mount in place. Works perfectly
I have the 390lm fitted on the Navihalter bracket, I have Aztec spacers as well which gives it loads of room. Have just installed an interphone intercom tonight and got it paired up so looking forward to testing it out under speed.
