Riding along yesterday on my 1198 with a phone mount attached via a ball system to the clip on in heavy traffic through Keighley on way to playing out in the Dales just passed through some traffic lights and round the car in front when the phone and its case exited stage left to land on the carriageway I stopped about 10 m further to see all the traffic driving over my phone and mount! About 20 cars drove straight over the top of it straddling the thing in the middle of the road A number of cars clipped it that I could see with the insides of their wheels stopped the traffic and went to collect what I thought would be a disintegrated mess to find that the phone and the case are totally intact! A lucky escape but the lesson to learn is make sure that the three little attachments to the back of the plate of the mount are securely pushed on until they click!
Why on **EARTH** have you got a bloody phoney mount on an 1198?! What the hell is so important that makes you want to bloodywell talk to people when you are riding?! It's just wrong!....
lol I cant tell if your taking the piss or not. I dont do it either. but if car drivers can. then what makes bikers the exception in your eyes ???
lol I hate having it on my bike but its all about fuel and the lack of it in the dales- have nearly run out a number of times since getting the bike and fuel stations are closing all the bloody time in the dales so its v v useful to be able to find the nearest and nav to it. Usually keep it in the back and put on when needed - but had been lazy - that will teach me......and yes its a phone but with nav on it for routeing not for chatting = that would be an interesting call to take at warp speed lmao
Tom toms have call facility as I found out oh joy... When I first had my Rider I was scooting up A1 with my scala headpiece on and next thing I know some stupid cow came through on my headpiece. I said I'm on a bike I'm not taking a call when riding il call you when I pull over Saw end call button and cut her off.. So what does she do keep calling. I was livid. It wasnt important .. I now don't link up with my phone ! There is no way you can seriously take a call while riding. I was fuming. Now it can't happen but she obviously could hear the bike. But wouldn't get off the phone
Same thing happened to me on my vstrom. One minute my iphone was there, next it was gone. No idea where it fell as it was a few miles since I checked and resigned myself that it had gone to the great phone recycling unit in the sky. Came to a roundabout and noticed something black clacking down inside the fairing - my phone hanging on by the power cable next to the forks! Clunk click every trip from then on
Am I understanding this correctly? are you all using your little i-phoney thingies and attaching them to your motorbikes purely for their satelite navigational abilities?.....which makes me think - wouldn't it be cheaperand probably more appropriate to buy a Garmin SatNav rather than sticking a bloody telephone on your bike?!....
yes. No. Precisely the opposite. I have a choice of two satnav apps (I don't use Apple's) one of which was free. Cost of maps for various world regions is also ludicrously cheap compared to dedicated satnavs. Plus its a phone. Phone's are quite handy.
Sat navs on superbikes ,takes me to look at the speedo never mind anything else waste of a good run I reckon.Stop and pull it out your pocket
I don't use the phone except to call in an emergency, breakdown, puncture etc: I haven't put a satnav on the bike I doubt I'd have the time to look at it (more due to my poor riding ability rather than the velocity I'm traveling at). Anyway cutting to the chase 2 points 1)Good free maps for Garmin's are available here, I use it on my bicycle FREE British Isles and Ireland Maps Home (talkytoaster) 2) None of you guys ever heard of lanyards? I use paracord and attach a lanyard to something else just in case. I use it mainly for my Contour and soon to be purchased GoPro. Its saved the Contour once. Just a thought John
I don't have a pocket in my leathers ! Would be a major hassle to retrieve it from under my seat regularly - by having it on a mount its stopped me running out of juice on two or three occasions now
Buy a Kriega R3 waistpack and put the phone in there. I couldn't think of anything worse than being connected to the phone on a bike. One of my reasons for riding is getting away from the bloody thing.
