Can anyone tell me what the scooter boys thing is all about? You know the born again MOD`s, long coats, Vespa type. Pulled up along side three scooters on my 848 at a set of traffic lights yesterday, didn`t really take alot of notice of them. But when the lights changed one of them felt the urge, in front of his mates, to race me and then wheelie along side me. Of course one squirt of my throttle and they were small dots in my mirrors. But why did he want to make himself look a such a prat, do the 'Scoots' have a dislike of Ducati's? Fortunately for me I was wearing a precautionary tena man which helped after I pissed myself laughing. Has anyone else come across these scooter types and had a similar experience?
They were just the same when they first turned up.......You know, a 125 Vespa against a BSA Super Rocket or a Bonnie................Pr*ts. Mind you, I quite liked/like scooters of that era, preferably Lambrettas.... AL.
It's all scooterists I find especially Vespa owners. Geared 125's are normally fine but I had a proper idiot on a souped up R125 who tried to race me for a couple of miles yesterday. Maybe it's 'cos my SS looks battered and looks like it's from the 1980's? I normally don't humour them as I know I'll end up being spat off but I had to demolish him.
I love them . Always have, I like there attitude , I like there music, mostly, and I find them amusing . The fact that they want to race you from the traffic lights tells it all. imo.
We have quite a few around here, I think that they are all born again scooter 'boys' and I use the word boys very loosely as most of them are now at least in their 40's and trying to regain some of their youth. I do think that it is kind of sweet that they think that their scooters can beat a proper bike away from the lights, or anywhere come to think of it. Is this why they travel in groups? So that it takes so long to get past them all they think that they are fast.
Lambretta's and Vespa's are scooters anything else is a moped !! Have to say love them... especially Lambrettas , don't knock em until you have been on a race tuned one funny as..... As much as we bikers have a bike scene with rallies and such the scooter boy scene is still going strong. I used to hang about with both in my youth and the scooterboys where a real hoot really naughty. About 16 years later I went to work and low and behold older and wiser I now work with one again!
Moving on from scooters, do people get raced by cars alot? I've had the SS nearly a year now and today was the first time someone tried to race me off the line. Had a Nissan 350 stop next to me at the lights and steamed off that lights. (He got the up on me at the green but promptly yielded as he realised my "vintage" looking bike was faster 0-70mph! )
At our local music venue we have 'mod' bands playing from time to time, Weller Collective and the like, sometimes after a few beers the 50+yr olds start chanting 'we are the mods'(x4). They been watching Quadrophenia too much if you ask me. I've had a bit of stick wearing bike gear there before now too, I thought we were all friends now?
Most of the time we are friends but like in any group you have the snobbish type. "Wife did not let you have a bike ej?" usually calls them down or rages them on and they walk away.
Yup gotta be a young Leslie Ash. I think the whole mod/rocker thing is ok, each to their own, but chavs on scooters, now that I hate.
Bunch of w@nkers - ffs get a real bike, jacket, life etc, quite like the music tho, and the drugs, hmmm, yeah they're alright they can party ...
I just don't get it! Can you imagine going any distance on one? I know a bloke who goes to rallies all over the country, and they sound brilliant, but there's no way I could put up with the journeys
My elder brother had a scooter (Lambretta) in the 60s with Union Jack side panels. I'm all in favour. Each to his own 2 wheeled thing. Surely it's no sadder than dentists on Harleys, though come to think of it, that's pretty sad.
So geezer on a Vespa wheelies past you and that's not cool?! No different to turning up at boxhill all Ducati or alpinestars leathered up, arai lids in tow, is it really...2 wheels always better than 4
This kids cool . Or about to kill himself . Not sure which. Only time I had my helmet down I ended up with a broken Elbow , very painful , and a broken hip , not so painful but life threatening , Both were cured with Morphine and surgery.
