I have a 1098s with full termi system and carbon exhausts. Before Christmas I had the ecu re-mapped and because I want to possibly get on track this year with the bike I had the db killers installed. The company who did the mapping cut the end off the db killers so they were not so restrictive. I have just been cleaning the bike and noticed that at the end where the pipe enters the carbon exhaust, there are scorch/burn marks on the carbon and I really don't remember seeing it there before. I haven't even ridden the bike this year so I am now worried I am going to wreck the exhausts. Surely these have been designed for the db killers? Has anybody else had this problem and what do they do about it please?
The culprit will be that the exhaust packing material has deteriated and is allowing hot exhaust gases to come into contact with the carbon sleeve - then scorching them. Strip down the cans and repack with accoustafil Silencer Packing Material by Thermal Velocity . As for cutting down the length of the db killers - a waste of time and effort, its the ID which reduces the exhaust gas exit and reduces sound waves. Dont do 98dB days and dont need dB killers
Thanks for the quick reply. I'm not sure about repacking them myself. Do you know anybody who does this?
I cut my db killers. with no killers very loud with cut killers loud with killers not loud I havnt a clue about restriction but would imagine removing the restrictive inlet to the db killer would make them slightly less restrictive. im writing this dosed with co codamol 30/500 and tramadol so in fact mightn't even be here to write this. do I even care?who am I ? where am I ? what was the question ??????????????????
Yeah they need re-packing, my mate had the same thing on his 748, he re-packed them himself and now the carbon is only luke warm to touch after a long ride, really good!
