I have had one something similar by ryde the last 2 years, they take a little getting used to, but do let you stretch out your fingers and avoid hand cramp.
Personally I would miss it if it was not there, and for less than £10 it is worth a punt.

yes very useful on a long ride and easy to rotate out of the way when in town.
