Wiring aside does anyone know if the engine mounts would be the same? They look to be identical but wanted to check. My 797 is my first bike so holds more value to me than it’s worth. I’m now on 50k miles and thought rather than change bike I could possibly upgrade the engine? (I should add I was considering getting another 797 engine if not for when it eventually fails) Thanks Tom
The engine mounts are the same but I don't know how you'll get on fitting the other 1100 bits- airbox, throttle bodies, etc.
Cheers Derek, at the moment it’s running fine so this would be a long term project to keep once it’s done it’s commuting duty as it were. I might have to have a closer look at one to see the locations of other parts in relation. Thank you for confirming einging mounts though
You would also need the 1100 ECU but I don't know if that would be compatible with the 796 wiring and/or the dash,. Alternatively you could get the 796 ECU reflashed with a suitable map.
I’ll keep looking into it then Mines a 797 so shares the 803 engine with the scrambler anyway. Bits like the exhaust all look a direct fit so I’d hope the wiring would be simular. Are the ecu‘s on that age a similar part number as was wondering if all that might be compatible with a plug in?
I think you could have a real minefield there. The Monster 796 and 1100 wiring diagrams look very similar and the ECUs could probably be swapped but the 796 and 1100 Monsters have twin throttle bodies whereas the 1100 Scrambler has a single throttle body. The 1100 Scrambler uses a completely different ECU that would require the Scrambler wiring and dash. But the part numbers for the 796 and 1100 Monster throttle bodies assemblies are the same. So it looks like an 1100 Scrambler engine with an 1100 Scrambler ECU using the 796 throttle bodies could work.
Cheers Derek, I do appreciate you looking into that. I definitely don’t expect it to be an easy swap, sounds possible though. I’m in a good position where my bike is essentially worthless to all bar me now and will only start the work if it goes bang to form a slight project/ fun toy of keeping my first bike. Saying that I realise it would be cheaper to go and buy a monster 1100 but there’s no fun in that hey! Haha
