Hello guys. I have a bad scratch on the inside of my left fork. I've only had the bike a month and thought it must have been done in transport. However upon inspecting new bikes in the show room they all have this similar scratch from what appears to be caused by the brake line. Wonder if you guys have a similar issue and what you have done to solve it.
Buy a clear, pushbike chain stay guard from Halfords or a bike shop. Apply to offending part of fork leg, then forget about it.
Yea I'm thinking cos mine is quite deep. After washing I will apply a little clear nail polish or something and apply a little carbon fibre patch as I don't want it to carrode. It's past the anodise and down to metal. Have you had the same issue? Can't believe this little thing is over looked wen its so simple to stop happening. Cheers
i put a bit of grey ptfe tape over it, hides it and provides a low friction surface for the brake line to rub against.
Yep same here I put a clear sticky backed rub strip over it but it came off after my first outing. I had a word with the mechanic at the dealers he said it's the brake line and sensor wires. and hinted if it gets to bad claim on your warranty. my concern is how weak would it make the forks after a year or so of rubbing and what's it doing to the cables and pipes that are rubbing it in the first place. I am waiting for some aluminium sheet off ebay I'm going to make a small bracket to fit where the "loom" comes out from behind the front mudguard to try to hold the loom off the fork leg.
I managed only to get a slight rub, but have the gold ohlins, so a match is a non starter - the grey may be easier? Another little design foible that could have been sorted with a 20p plastic bracket or similar.
Yea not impressed really, £15 grand on a bike and four weeks in have a scratch worse than on my 5 year old daytona. Half the price and better build quality, it's even got 90 degree valves on wheels to make it nice and easy to do tyre pressures, these little things count wen you spend premium money. Especially when my triumph was half that. Don't get me wrong I love the bike but how easy is it to avoid something like this.
Mine rubbed on my pp after a month dealer changed fork leg under warranty and put a black plastic stay on leg to keep cables off it all good now
Mine has a deep groove caused by the brake hose. Under the 2 year warranty it seems they will replace, after that tough!! As you say it's a very very poor design. Not changed on the skyhook model either. I put a cable tie round my fork leg. A cheap clip (as found on lots of bikes) sorts this. Yet another detail Ducati don't seemed bothered with.
No mine has straight valves, not an issue but a nice detail for an expensive bike I'd say. So I can get the fork done under warranty? If so I will and then stick a patch over it. No probs.
the 90 deg valves stop the tyre deflating at speed due to centrifugal forces acting on the tyre valve and pulling it off the seat causing loss of pressure.
Hi Melvin I have the same problem Can I ak what kind of plastic stay they fitted ...could you possibly post a picture please
I used a pair of 'cable ties' at the base just above the front hugger. Pulled the cables away nicely, then got Ducati to replace the leg under warranty
thanks for the pic, got a parts number by any chance? don't have any marks on my 2012 MTS-PP fork leg yet after 2+ years hard riding but would be interesting to find out about fitment of the pictured black cable stay onto the Ohlins MTS forks to prevent any rubbing. now the big question, are the Sachs / Ohlins forks the same diameter?
Hi Melvin Thanks for picture and reply Are these a Ducati part do you know where we could all get one please ? Thanks in advance These look just the job so perhaps if youre not sure could you let me have your dealer and contact and I could phone them ? Cheers Melvin
