Hi folks. Any suggestions on how to deal with these scratches on the exhaust heat shield on my Monster S4R? It appears to be a satin alloy finish to the shield. Rub it down with wet and dry and then use some form of scourer to reinstate the finish?
Is it alloy? Have you checked it with a magnet to make sure it's not steel? Have you considered replacing it with carbon? Otherwise, I can't help thinking that paint is your best option. If it's alloy, rubbing down will go through the anodising and you'll never get the finish back.
It is alloy and from giving it a light rubbing with fine wet and dry it is painted/lacquered. So it looks like as you say paint is the best option, same with the footrest heel guards.
That makes sense because anodising is pretty hard/tough, so wouldn't normally scratch very easily. What type of paint to use is the next thing. Satin silver will look good but how hot does it get?
