My year old Multi DVT has a very annoying screen rattle. It’s only noticeable at low speeds around town but I did some research and thought it’d be the mechanism. However it was in for its service last week and thy checked it over and said nothing was loose or broken. They think the extra weight of the Ducati Nav Mount is causing the issue (and to be fair i hasn’t noticed it prior to the mount going on late last summer). Anyone else with the mount having the same issue? I’m using a Puig Touring screen but I’ve swapped between that and the standard and it’s the same sound.
Yes mine is the same with either screen on. Also have sat nav unit. Just accepted it, didn,t think i could do much about it.
Mines the same but last year I took the screen off and packed the bottom bearing slider with Vaseline where the screen rod runs through. It seemed to do the trick for the rest of the year but it's back again now - more Vaseline required......
Vaseline eh? I will give that a try. How’d you do it? Screen off? Did you disassemble it or just squeeze some in to the top?
Mine rattled before the nav mount and I complained to Riders. Now this may sound strange but I've not noticed the rattle since even with the nav mount on, so I'm guessing they have cured it. It only used to rattle with me at a certain rpm, so perhaps that's why they can't detect it at your dealer. And if I remember correctly it is a common fault and someone on here came up with a cure for it using super glue, have a search.
My DVT did it from new and that's a total bullshit excuse if ever there was one. It's not your nav mount. There is a known issue with play in the bush which has the rod passing through it. Take it back and tell them to replace it. If you feel like it you can put a drop of "odourless" superglue (the type that doesn't make a white hazy mark on black plastic) on the outer part of the plastic bush and that will stop it rattling, but it will restrict the movement in the ratchet mechanism, making it harder to move with one hand. Really you want that part replacing.
I’ve seen the superglue thread fix but as it’s under warranty don’t really want to go that way (yet). I’ll speak to the dealer again when it’s in for tyres in a month or so, firmly asking them to fit a new bush (or mechanism). Thanks for the feedback chaps.
Last year I worked a little Vaseline into the top of the bearing where the rod passes and it seemed to work the rattling stopped. I've only ridden once this year and the rattle has come back so I've just repeated the process - only takes a few minutes. No guarantees but could be worth a try. I should also say I have the small racing screen so this may make a difference to those running the bigger touring versions. It doesn't feel right to pay >15K and then have to solve these issues ourselves but the answer from my dealer was 'they all do that'.
My navihalter moves about quite a bit, especillay now with the smaller screen, and rattles at lower revs (like tickover or round town). I don’t remember it doing that with the taller screen, may have done just not noticeable, so I’d suspect it’s the mount too.
My 2016 developed the same problem around 10 k miles, very annoying especially on cobbled streets, ended up beeing solved by the dealer under warranty
When you got your Navihalter, it came with a little metal extrusion with a double-sided sticky pad. If you didn't use it, or installed it in the wrong place then it will move about. If it's in the correct place and hasn't come adrift then it doesn't move on it's fixing point - and if it is moving then the screw will be damaging the plastic.
Thanks! I’ll have a look, as it was taken off and refitted by the dealer once, and I recently changed the screen so may have knocked the pad off
My rattle is definitely the screen mechanism into the fairing. The mounts nice and secure. If you touch the top of the screen (bracing it slightly) it stops.
I used to do that to my screen LF to stop the rattle and that was before fitting my nav holder. If I was you I'd insist on them fixing the problem, why should you have to fiddle. Have you tried it without the mount on ?
I accidentally left my angled metal strip stuck to my DVT when I traded it in. I've since 3D printed a replacement which is working, but I don't know how durable it will be. I've had a look around for likely extrusion profiles but couldn't find any so I might just have to mill one out of a small billet of aluminium, which seems like total overkill for such a simple but quite important component.
