Went to get to the battery today and as I tried to undo the bolt that holds the battery restraint in place, it rotated but didn’t undo. It simply rotates and clicks. It feels like whatever the bolt is screwed into is rotating with it and catching on something to make the clicking noise… Any ideas how to go about removing this???
It’s likely to be a threaded brass insert in the plastic housing behind that it screws into. These inserts have tangs on them to prevent them rotating. If the bolt is screwed too tight, the insert rotates and when one attempts to remove the bolt the insert rotates in the plastic. Only way to remove is to drill the head off the bolt, remove the battery retaining strap/bracket and then attack the insert in the plastic housing. Various means can be used to remove it: - hot soldering iron to melt it out - pull it out with mole grips Etc. I unfortunately don’t know exactly what the arrangement is on that bike but have come across similar on airbox trumpet screws on 749/1098 etc.
Before pulling it out the hard way..... try to unscrew it turning it right.... clockwise... the female adapter maybe come out turning it clockwise..... now... if this don't work like mine... i took a drill, place a allex bit in front and with high speed it melted the plastic housing and come out.... now a cable tie do all the work there
Mine snapped off when I got a bit heavy handed with it trying to undo it. I've not bothered doing anything about it, put a new battery in and its not fallen out yet
You can just apply a little bit of downward pressure in the middle of the arm, it will bend enough to pop out of the retaining hole, just turn to one side, to put back just do reverse, I’ve had the same issue. No problem doing it this way
