After the thread of considerable woes. And my ever growing list of common issues. I'm really starting to think twice about parting with £12,000 of hard earnt saved cash for a second hand MTS... I can get a second hander pretty soon. But will have to wait a little while longer for a 2013 and to be honest. I want a bike before then for actual reasons other than fun. I am starting to be scared more towards a cheap jap bike and put the cash else where now Specially after my 1098S not exciting me that much. What should I do?
Do what your head tells you. Get a UJM and be bored or a Duke and fall in love. If you want t totally boring Adventure style bike, go get a Ténéré. 100% reliable but dull as fuck. If you want fun, get the Duke.

Get a Multistrada. 12 or the 13 model, I'm not sure there is enough difference to make it worth the extra. I love mine, yes it has a few niggles, but so has every bike I've ever had. 23000 miles on clock.. 400 miles overthrow last few days...Still keep thinking of new reasons to go out on it. Had to upgrade exhaust to a decat leoVince, Fatducs now lovely.
Definitely. Forty years of riding experience persuaded me to pay the extra for the latest model. I haven't regretted it for a minute, having spent just over a week running it in. What a machine!
Pay the extra for the 2013 skyhook model, not just for that but better slow running that makes the latest model easier to ride in town.
I have no problems riding mine in town it's called clutch and throttle control and using the Urban mode (for which it was designed) :wink: Is the SkyHook version really worth £5000 more than I paid? Somehow I think not.......Just my opinion of course
Hi, I'm currently in the Pyranees on my 2013 ABS Mutley and couldn't be happier, full luggage and two up we are having a scream, roads are terrific and bike is brilliant in the twisties. This is my first Ducati (red of course) and it's been brilliant, can't believe how it corners, tyres are better than I thought too, first time I've had a bike with no chicken strips!! Just get a 2013 and smile every time you look at it! Anyway must dash, got another 200+ miles of twisties to do. Enjoy whatever you buy.
Well, I bought a second-hand 2010 1200S in November from Ducati Coventry, and I haven't regretted a moment. I just love riding the damn thing, and go out whenever I can, irrespective (almost) of the weather. It is a better bike than I can ride, if you see what I mean. And cornering is just gorgeous!
Buy what you can afford when you want it. If its a 2nd hand unit, make sure you get 12 months warranty. There are niggles and warranty issues with everything these days. It's a great bike whichever 1 you buy and check that there are no issues that are outstanding with it. the 2013 bikes main benefit over the 2010-2012 models is the Skyhook system, when 2 up. However the rear spring can be upgraded to improve the ride ability of the earlier models.
The extra five grand pays for a lot more than skyhook of course ... and you're also getting a brand-new bike.
Couldn't agree more. I'm even getting up early enough to ride on deserted roads! Makes me smile as much as the Speed Triple it made way for - and that's really saying something considering it is built to do a much more serious job.
