Hi all, Just doing an insurance enquiry and wondered what security equipment is fitted the the base model as standard. If none, or just an immobiliser can you guys and gals recommend a Data Tag and/or Tracker system that insurers recognise. Thanks as always for any advice.
Would look into the road angel bike trac if I were you, I have the Datatool Tracker fitted to the D16 and don't really rate it. Would have fitted a road angel, but at the time it wasn't insurance recognised, believe it is now.
Immobiliser only. Bike Trac unit is approved by Ducati and at the moment, there's a free unit with a new bike and ducati insurance are doing 25% discount with the tracker installed. ive fitted quite a few Bike Tracs and they have been faultless.
Yep......Ducati - Free Bike Trac & discounted Ducati Insurance on a new Panigale I think the discount may apply to other bikes to but you'd need to buy the Bike Trac....
The bike track thing seems good, I dont know much about it, just be mindful of extra costs though as most trackers have a monthly or yearly subscription charge. For what its worth, the stock immobiliser is a 'ducati' part and not recognised by most insurers (but ducatis own insurance do). I got a meta alarm 375 thingy(?) alarm immobiliser thrown in when I bought my bike which is recognised by insurers. Just my 2 pence.
Yep. There is an annual subscription on the trackers. There is also the Ducati alarm for the Panigale which is Cat 1 i believe and the bike is prewired for it. Personally, I'd go for a tracker over an alarm nowadays.
Alarms are rubbish in this day and age. When car alarms first came out everyone would go and look when one was heard, exactly what you wanted. Now there are so many going off all the time no one cares, in fact its annoying. Its a shame that they are still required by insurers as its now a bit outdated. Trackers are great, as is decent physical security and some common sense.
Yes Bradders. Nice piece of kit with some useful features as well as being a good security measure. Warns you about low battery, has the route download and also a rider down feature. If you're out on your own and have a spill, it'll call for help.
Thanks everyone. I kind of feel the same about alarms. Immobiliser, Tracker and possibly some form of Data Tagging if it help with insurance premium. Can recorded GPS data be used against you in a court of law? Currently Getting around the £900 to £1,000 mark. 1 years NC gets about a 40% reduction. Damn it.
Doesn't record speed. Was discussed with road angel and there's not enough info to be used as evidence....
My mates pain was stolen recently, had tracking device, knew it was stolen within minutes of the theft, called the police telling them which roads it was being taken away on,and the police said they were too busy to follow or get involved.after 30 mins they went into a tunnel and apparently never came out?
As said, yep it has an immobilizer. The road angel can also have the speed register thingy turned off and apparently is hard for them to use as evidence against you. It has also been tested for battery drain by Ducati themselves and is recommended by them over other trackers. It is also recognized by insurers. It also has the leads so you can whack it on charge in you garage like a optimizer
Thanks for the advice I appreciate it. There's something in British law I believe where you can't supply evidence to incriminate yourself, summut like that. Road angel sounds good if I'm honest. Is it the same people who made laser detectors for cars etc?
Ordered my Pani last weekend and was advised that if the Bike Trac is fitted, there is no point is having the optional OEM alarm as most are ignored or treated as a nuisance and insurers will not give additional dscount over and above the bike trac. As said above, the Bike Trac is approved by Insurers being Thatcham 6 approved IIRC and provides 25% discount from Duc Insurance (Equity Red Star appear to be the Underwriters). Annual Bike Trac sub is currently £99 pa but free for 1st year as part of the Pani deal for new registrations which appears to expire on 30/04/13.hope this helps
