1200 R Seduced At Excel

Discussion in 'Monster' started by spanish, Feb 17, 2016.

  1. Visit to Excel seduced me. Have a 2013 Multi, that I love. I was lent a 1200s last year when in for servicing and fell in love with it but my sensible side said no.
One year on and have an order for the 1200r-delivery probably not till July. Lots of time for looking forward. Going to keep the Multi for touring but, if the Monster works, that may go.
Loved the bike with Termis -even the slip one-so may have to negotiate a price. Not used to not having a centre stand so may have to consider a paddock stand and would welcome any thoughts or advice.

  2. I've got a 1200 stripe and went for the R&G paddock stand. Pricey but stable and very well made and very easy to use.

  3. Thanks for that. Presume the R&G doesn't need any fittings such as bobbins to the bike.

  4. You have to specify the pin size. The pin for the M1200S is 40mm (I think) but the R&G site has a shop by bike menu that tells you the pin size. In the site pics the pin is metal but for the monster it actually has a hard plastic outer so it doesn't scratch the inside of the axle or need greased.

It's also a very neat fit and the pin is held in good quality roller bearings so it rotates when you're doing your chain. You will need outer circlip pliers to assemble it and a little grease will help too.

  5. Good info - thanks. Ducati tried to persuade me to their branded paddock stand that is expensive and requires bobbin fitting.

  6. I have the Abba superbike stand for my Monster 796. Very stable and doesn't require any modification to the bike. It's almost like a big centre stand in operation and gives plenty of access to the rear wheel - even for a wheel change if required. They also sell a front wheel lift accessory for full bike lift; but I've lifted the front wheel for short periods using a jack carefully under the sump. No the cheapest option but good practicality for maintenance.

  7. I really like the 1200R as well. If I ever decide on a naked bike then it's right up at the top of the list for sure. The alternatives are mostly race bikes without fairings which were awesome but overall didn't really make sense when I took them out.

  8. Road a Monster 1002s first. Ride out on the Diavel end of last year and, because of my age and the dealers insurance, had to follow one of the sales guys who went out on a Monster. Spent most of the ride on the Diavel admiring the Monster and wishing i was riding that. Hey ho!

Still wonder whether it is the right thing to do. Have to decide, also, whether I keep my 3 year old Multi which is a great touring bike- costs of capital tied up insurance tax and servicing two bikes!

  9. I am very keen on 1200r, but most dealers are not playing ball with trade in price on my bike and also cannot understand why the extra interest rate for the black bike?
