I just got off the phone with Touratech, they are wanting £1,861 for a full (38L) set of panniers and top box, with locks and a tank bag. I'm looking at these as I have a seriously big opportunity that might be there. I ride from mine to Mumbai and then even further into Asia. I go through these countries: France Switzerland Italy Austria Hungary Serbia Bulgaria Turkey (Via Istanbul) Iran Pakistan India From there, I would likely ride around Asia, Vietnam etc. Obviously I need to look up what places have what restrictions, what each border crossing entails, will my bike be legal (Vietnam it won't be for it's engine size for example). All of this is to be done. Right now, I'm just toying with the possibility. So, it's not a question of if I drop my bike, but when I drop it, I want crash bungs, extra frame bars (the ones that sit over the fins either side by your knees) and most importantly, durable, solid and tough panniers/top box. I would likely tent it for the most part once I got past Turkey. And this would all be done around the end of this year/start of next. Anyway, anyone got any experience with fitting Touratech on their Multi and did they sell the originals to fund it? How much are my Ducati top box (plus mount) and panniers worth without locks? They are red. Immaculate condition, only used a hand full of times. Not a single scratch.
Fresh age, I have a man interested in your panniers. Send me a pm with email address / phone number and I will pass them on. You can then sort it out between you. The panniers were £490 new, and I reckon you will get about 250 to 300 quid for them.
better stuff that touratech out there and cheaper , i suggest you look at adventurebikerider.com , there is many folks on there that have done big trips and will advise whats needed
As for better options, try these. I think these are made to your spec within reason and UK made. STAHLKOFFER Prices | StahlKoffer Motorcycle Panniers
Don't count on a sale any time soon chap, I'm just shopping my self. Thanks though! As for the opportunity, times change fast. It turns out, it will be MUCH cheaper just flying out to Mumbai then buying a Royal Enfield Bullet 350 or something like that for a grand then using that to tour Asia. Then just sell it when I come home.
No problem, just trying to out two guys together. Doing the bullet thing will be an experience, a few guys I know did just that. Whatever you do it on, it will be great
Hi, I have returned from 5 weeks in Morocco and used not on my multi, but used the kreiga overland 60 fitted on 18 ml pannier frames you rated or other. I ditched 15 liters and replaced with a water and petrol can. They were fantastic to use, tough (even against a taxi) water proof, dust proof and jays to use and cost about £500!!
Sorry forgot to say, big issue with metal panniers is also broken angles which you won't get with soft luggage!
I'd also be interested in the top box. My research says that red ones are by far the least valuable, so a fair price is probably around £2.50. However, for a fellow forum member, i could probably stretch a little further... ;-)
have a look at adventure bike magazine, loads of manufacturers, personally after talking to the touratech people at Excel, about a part, then seeing it at least 20% cheaper at the Adventure bike shop, and the quality was pants, I would never use touratech, its a must on a BMW GS,
