749 Semi Or Full Synth

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by bluey, Dec 31, 2015.

  1. Sorry about this but I need to ask the oil question.

Is 10/40 the norm, what does the manual say?

I have plenty of 10/40 semi synth in the garage and was planning to use it.

  2. Fully synth recomended. If you're not tracking it semi probably ok. 10w/40 is correct visc.

  3. Cool, thanks.

Phew, that was easy. The oil question on a forum can be a can of worms. :)

  4. No, NO, NO!

Just kidding. You'll probably be fine with semi.

    But use fully synth :)

  6. Silkolene pro4,i always use full synth, the way I see it top notch ducati's should be fed top notch oil...and my indie mech swears by it, good enough for me!

  7. I would usually use full synth but I have just changed the oil in the car and the van and I have enough left over for the bike too so may as well use it this time around.

I wanted to double check to viscosity type, 10/40 it is ;) I'll just change it sooner.

  8. And I am pleased to report that no debris was found in the two filters or on the drain plug. All good, that's a first for this bike! :)

  9. I wouldn't use car engine oil in a bike. Bike engine oil does 2 jobs lubricates the engine but also has to withstand the shearing forces in the gearbox.

  10. I've not read anything on that particular difference between m/cycle and car oil. I've have read plenty on using car oils for a wet clutch though, this is indeed a no no, but since I have a dry clutch the extra friction reducing agents cant do any harm. Can they?

I knew this would be a can of worms lol.

I can see this thread being vaped in the near future :)
