So was looking in to buying one of those as price wise it is good enough. 5 can be had for about £80gbp, 10 about £115. Comparing it to other units available it is about half the price minimum but seems to have same features but one. All the more expensive units have IP67 classification aka dustproof and water immersion up to 1am for 30 min. As it has ip67 warranty covers that. Anyone has or had Sena unit, any comments about usage quality (volume, how microphone works at speed, battery time 3 months or more from purchase & was it ok in rain)?
Just found this thread. Had the SMH10 for 8 months now. V satisfied. Pretty good in rain. I hadn't taken good care of mine and left it in damp pockets. During the M4 deluge last Sep, it failed. My mate who had another unit (part of a pair) came through with no probs. I probably didn't close the weather cap properly and was flooded. Sena were really good with their warranty. My unit was ordered from the States (cos they didn't have Rev B here then) and they replaced it straight away. Postage there and back was 20 quid. My mate bought an SMH5 for his other half. Functionality the same except less batt life, only 3-way intercom and less intercom range. However, ideal for the pillion and solo riders. Sound quality on par, although speaker smaller. The only difference in terms of usage is that the SMH10, the module and helmet clamp is separate. You can take it off the helmet to charge and upgrade firmware. The SMH5 is one whole unit. So you have to bring your helmet to the side. I think it also doesn't have a mini jack. Sound quality is good and treble is enhanced for earplug use. Mic is not bad below 70mph. Most reviews are from the States and from cruiser riders. Position is the most important thing. All in all, very well made. we sometimes forget the social aspects of riding. Open roads, ok, so we're blasting it away. But when it comes to town, looking for stuff, checking out scenery, sharing jokes; it really adds another dimension. Excellent for emergencies. Also makes phone calls, connects to GPS, music via smarthphone bluetooth etc.
