1200 Serie Oro Brake Disc?

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Sam1199, Jan 2, 2021.

  1. Has anyone fitted a replacement Brembo Serie Oro brake disc to a DVT 1200 or 1260?
Did it make the rear brake any more effective?

I don’t like to criticise Ducati but it really is unbelievable that they think the standard rear brake is acceptable.

  2. Hi Sam I've not fitted them on a multi but I do have them on my r1 road bike and gsxr track bike and they are very good though I'm using brembo sc pads as well.

  3. I fitted front ones with M5p callipers, much better but I can’t advise on the rear as I didn’t make that change.
There were a lot of posts about adding a bleed valve under the seat to the ABS unit

  4. Look up Canyon Chasers YT post on bleeding the rear caliper and you'll be sorted.

  5. I don’t speak from personal experience but I think, the main issue with the rear is the caliper or MC. I say this because even with TC switched off, you literally have to stand on it to make it maybe lock up, so just not enough stop juice getting transferred. I would think changing the rear disc would see a minor improvement ? Changing the front would get a much more rewarding improvement.

  6. I have the Serie Oro discs and racing pads on my 1260, but haven’t ridden the bike since they’ve been fitted. They look good though!

  7. I had my Monster's M50 front disc brakes replaced under warranty but had I known, I would have paid the difference and upgraded.
I'm very interested to read your review.

  8. The front does a good job but the rear is pants.

I’ve watched the Canyon Chasers Youtube post and done the bleed with the Castrol react SRF. It’s better but not as good as the rear brake on a GS. Why not? They’re both Brembo brakes.

It can be better so I want it better and more efficient.

  9. Let us know when get chance to ride it. Exactly what pads did you buy for the rear?

  10. Will do. They’re the Brembo red racing pads, I’ll try and find the part numbers for you.

  11. Watching this thread with interest Sam.

Rear brake (on my 1260) was poor from the off. Had Ducati Alton bleed it at first service which improved it a reasonable amount but not to an ahh yes this is great level. When compared to my mates (bought at the same time, same issue and didn’t have his bled) the different was noticeable so not it’s in my head kind of thing. However over time it feels like it’s returned to original state - but haven’t done comparison with my mates bike again for proper comparison.

Also, fronts make a really annoying rub when manoeuvring before you ride off. Asked to check if sticking or warped at the second service and told they all do that sir and that they were not warped.

Love the bike - it’s bloody brilliant, but brakes let down what is overall a great package. Mind you, the rider needs a fair bit of work so perhaps best leave it there!!!!

  12. The rubbing is normal, as mine did it as well. Not any more though! I was lucky that Ducati replaced my rusty discs under warranty, so I just paid the extra for the Serie Oro.

  13. I’m definitely getting air into the rear brake on my 1200s Multistrada. Come to think of it my Monster is just as bad. I’ve done the upside down bleed and put Castrol SRF in which helped for a while but now it’s soft again. If I pump the rear brake I can feel it firm up. Air is definitely getting in.

I’m going to replace the rear brake line. I was thinking of getting a Serie Orro disc but there’s little point as I can feel the air in it. I’m going to order a Hel braided brake line and see if it does the trick.

Has anyone else made any progress with the soft rear brake?

  14. I don't have a soft rear brake. It's bled at annual service and remains good for the year.

  15. You’re lucky, many of us do.

  16. I am also very lucky, rear has never been an issue, I’m not sure replacing the disc will be a cure, as you mention it is the lines, joints ,master cylinder and ABS unit where the issue arises? Or is it the hot environment around the rear reservoir?

  17. It’s definitely letting air in. I’ve read that it’s a known manufacturing fault on some bikes.

I fitted Hel brake lines on my ST4 when I had it and it transformed the brakes. I’ll try it and see not only what it’s like but how it lasts.

  18. Unless you track it in high ambient temperatures and run decent pace, you wont see any difference

If you want better braking on road bike, the best thing is to buy decent pads.
