So July 2016 Enduro 1200, 11,700 miles, in for annual (somewhat delayed) service on 29th March. Belts should be changed at five years which is July '21 but valve clearances are at 18,000 miles with no time requirement (makes sense). Doubt I'll get to 18,000 this year. So I should probably get annual service and belts done this time right? Then Desmo (valve) service at next annual in '22? Or I could just go the whole hog (£££) and get the Desmo, belts, and oil service done on 29th March ...? Thoughts? I'm guessing new belts is fairly straightforward compared to full Desmo?
I did option 1. Then did the valves later. I did run over by 2k miles as my tour took me further than expected. No harm done.
Absolutely no reason to do the valve service at 11700, however, every reason to do the belts at 4 years 8 months. Andy
A year is a long time, could be 2 if things go tits up with covid, before you reach 18k miles. In that time you could sell it, have it stolen, or written off and the insurance company ain’t going to give you anymore money because you serviced it early? Option 1 all day long.
I'm at the same point with my 2016 1200s. Quick all with Nelly over at Cornerspeed and he said just belts/oil/filter at 5 years if I hasn't reached 18000 miles. Belts are time dependant and valves are miles dependant. Also mentioned to use OEM belts rather than aftermarket to get the warranty. So half the cost of the desmo and a nice run out to the garage to get it done. Win win
No worries. I'll be calling soon to get mine booked in as I have a feeling he's going to get very busy.
