I'm just about to service my new to me 916Bp, i gather Motul 7100 - 10/40 is the go for oil, i already changed the fuel filter earlier this year when changing the cracked and leaking plastic fuel sender nut, what air filters are recommended by you knowledgeable types out there?...should i go with the stock Ducati items or the washable Pipercross types?..Thanks Peeps..
Air filters - stick to the stock oem that fit within the airducts. Over the trumpets types are not favoured as it will set off a heated debate about induction roar and/or air pressures. I use BMC ones personally. Oil - again a debate will ensue, good quality 10/40 has been fine for mine for the past 20 odd years. Note: I use BMC coz Ive got carbon DP tubes and the oem dont fit.
I've ordered Motul 7100 15-50 as I've been told/read that 15/50 is preferred by these engines. However the service history of my bike indicates it's mostly had 10/40 in it during it's life. I don't think there's much in it TBH unless you live in an extreme climate.
Pipercross MPX038 filters. They fit in the air runners as per normal, and use the original frames. Superior to OEM filters, imo. https://www.ebay.com/p/1530333267 For oil, I use thicker 15W/50. Gives better cam lobe protection while pressure gets to the top of the head.
Also - what are the recommended standard spark plugs for my 97' 916, and what are you lot mostly using?...i'm getting a bit baffled by the choice out there.
