As the title says - got an oil leak on my 749 to get sorted and wondered who you guys use. Can't do much meself - lack of confidence / ability tbh - plus am disabled after a crash 3 years back. Any advice much appreciated. Cheers, Andrew.
Carl Harrison Harleston unit 1 52 London Road 01379 852020 Great bloke honest and very fair priced. Even if I move away I'd travel to have him take care of my bikes . He's a star. Wouldn't let anyone else near them now except Carl. I'm sure other folks on here will say good words . I've never heard a bad word about him by mouth or forum. He used to work at Chris Clarkes before he set up alone has had own place for years now. Can't praise him high enough !
Although I haven't used Carl for my Ducati (yet), I wouldn't hesistate to go to him if I find there is something I can't be bothered to tackle myself..... He always had a bl**dy good reputation when he was at Chris Clarke's place and several people I know have taken their Ducatis to him recently with complete satisfaction.... A mate of mine had his Multi break down at night, fortunately near where he was working and admittedly not a million miles away from Carl's place, but Carl picked it up the following morning and had it fixed very quickly. AL. PS...and from what my mate tells me, Carl was certainl a d*mn sight more cost efective than the people in Colchester.
Gonna cost me a oner with Carl just for collection / return, but prob gonna go wiv it as he seems to be the best man for the job - only name that keeps on cropping up as recommended, reliable and fair, plus a Ducati specialist for years? Hols first and then see what I've bought - fingers crossed it's not a wrong-in !!
Seriously .. He's the chap to see... His labour cost are really fair. If you went to a closer dealer you'd not get as good a service and don't forget their labour costs are far higher ! Even with the delivery pick up cost you'd walk away better off as he knows his stuff ! He's passionate about his work. You can ride in and he can hear something's a miss before you've got off your bike even if you can't hear it No pardon my expression youl get no bullshit.. He's fair and honest and a nice bloke. All of them there are.
Perhaps nip back into Parkys as they only serviced the bike a few hundred miles back. You should have contacted me as you did on the few other questions you asked, the oil 'leak' could be some left over oil. When I picked the bike up after its service it was leaking outside the shop, turns out they had not seated the filter properly. I also see you have called the bike 'filthy' in another post. Not sure about that ! You also mentioned buyer beware. I did offer to go half on getting the rear light sorted as had not noticed until you pointed out whilst following me and had no knowledge of any leak. I recinde the offer of going half on the getting the light fixed Good luck
Hi 749. Please be assured absolutely no offence meant re wrong-un or buyer beware. Purely self criticism, and tbh thought it unfair to come back to you saying this is dirty / that is leaking as I'd bought the bike as seen and looked it over (albeit with my unskilled eye lol). Fingers crossed all is ok and take on board re poss going back to Parkys and even more so credit to you for popping to Parkys to offer to sort rear light etc. Np re rescinding offer but please note I didn't name names, or slate anyone, purely worried that I may have bought myself some trouble - as you say I probably haven't. On dirt description we'll have to disagree, but again fair do's it is there to be ridden. Regards, Andrew.
Oil leak could be something simple like the sump washer buckled .. Is it still leaking? Little things like that can cause them to leak. which in all honesty I've done being clumsey. Anything like that wipe it clean and sit and watch your soon see where it's coming from unless a leak under pressure. never used mentioned place however on picking up a newish monster someone had a similar issue except worse on the way home. when I first got my monster I rang them and someone was really rude! Oh that's an older bike .. Put me off . then was told about Carl. I can't praise him enough!
Have cleaned oil drip away twice and only returns when run the bike up. Obv can be coming from various parts and is hardly pouring out, but will get the bike checked out just to be sure. To ensure no mis-understandings - no aspersions are being cast here, was a genuine sale so far as I am concerned with the onus on me to check anything and everything before sale and this is probably a minor nothing anyway. Thx for replies guys and will post up once all sorted - will speak again shortly with Carl.
