Hi all, I'm trying to find out if my 848 needs a "Desmo" service next year or not. Some places list this as being required at 7,500 miles (which I would be likely to hit before the next service is due) and other places at 15,000 (which I'm nowhere near!). I know that Ducati have just changed the servicing schedule requirements for these engines as the belt change is now 5 years rather than every 2 years, but can someone confirm the Desmo service timing for me? Also, does this just add the valve clearances to the usual service or is there more to it as I understand its fairly expensive. Thanks
My 2012 had belts and a service last year, and now just turned 8k,I was planning on doing the desmo next year, now I’m not surehow critical is this when the machine covers 1.5k per year?
How hard do you ride the bike ? If you just get on it and give it the beans from cold, red line it in the first 3 gears or track it, I’d suggest important. If however, you let the bike warm up before giving it some beans, tend not to red line it or track it, I’d suggest not so important. Not beyond the capability of a reasonable home mechanic to put a feeler gauge under the horizontal head valves to give you a warm feeling. Obviously if any of them are out of tolerance, clearly you’d need to do something about it. Talk to you local dealer/specialist, see how much they’d charge to do a statistical check, if you take the fairings off. Andy
Thanks for that Andy,I won’t be tracking it and I do warm it up.New to Ducati after a 25yr layoff so everything is a little different. Appreciate your help
So I've done some digging and downloaded the latest service schedule from the Ducati website. Reading through it I agree that the valve clearances should be done every "Oil" service (which seems to be every other year, alternating with the "1000" service). However, the "Oil" service and the "Desmo" service are different and the document lists the "Desmo" as every 15,000 miles for the 848/1098/1198 range at the bottom of the document.
