Service Timing

  1. Hey all

If one is not intending on using a bike over the winter months but a big service is due anytime soon, is there any harm/disadvantage getting it in autumn and laying the bike up till spring?

Just thinking the bike shop will be quieter in November and if anything nasty (rockers) is found it gives plenty of time to source parts before the sunshine.

  2. Lots of opinions on this but sounds sensible due to your rocker checks. Turn engine by hand once a month if you must, but it'll be OK :)
They'll be quiet in Jan / Feb too though I guess...

  3. Yep, wait until winter, but jan is probably the best month, by March people have started booking up

  4. Only issue with Jan is getting it there and back (about 50mls each way) will be bloody cold and probably results in a filthy bike.

  5. Last year I just turned the back wheel with the bike and in3rd 1/2 a turn every couple of weeks.

  7. To store, start for 5 mins every week, every month, run up to temp, turn over cold, acf50, spray bores, seal exhaust, car-coon, bike-coon, shrink wrap, heating, blanket, cover, what humidity etc etc etc

    There, done for you :upyeah:

  8. Better to service the bike before winter if its due and lay it up with fresh oil in it than wait till spring and leave the dirty oil in it for months.
Anyway, if you're anything like me you'll get a few rides on it through the winter when there's the odd clean, dry sunny day. I had some nice winter rides last year. Gentle ones because the tyres never get properly warm, but the odd mid winter bimble does bike and rider the world of good.

  9. And this way I can decide if Christmas needs cancelling or not. "You been bad kids, Santa hates you!".
