My 2011 Monster 796 has always been looked after by 2 local mechanics, however I am not enjoying the bike as much anymore due to mechanical issues and I am thinking of sending it off to a one of the well regarded workshops on this forum, need to figure out this list before asking for quotes though. I have put together the following list of things I want to ask to be done: change engine oil change oil filter clean oil intake filter check engine oil pressure check/adjust the valve clearances (replace shims if needed) check the tension of the timings belts new spark plugs new fuel filter check and clean air filter and replace if necessary check throttle body synchronisation and lidling change brake fluid lubricate throttle cable check brake pads and report back check steering head bearings and replace if necessary check chain and tension check the rear wheel cush drive check wheel hub bearings check tightness of nuts and screw securing the engine to the frame check the side stand check tightness of the wheel shaft nuts check external fuel hoses check front sprocket retaining bolts general lubrication and greasing road test bike general cleaning I am also going to ask for the following items to be carried out as the bike judders more than it used to and the sometimes starts and revs higher than usual and I have to turn the bike off and back on for it to idle normally on a cold start. Edit: also the exhaust seems to pop a lot more than it used to on de-cel which some people love, but I don't. check coils check fuel injectors check fuel pump check ignition wiring check starter motor check start motor sprag clutch I have also purchased all of the following for a clutch job, but may have my local mechanic carry out this work sooner as I need my clutch to be sorted. fit new clutch master cylinder fit new clutch hose fit new slave cylinder fit new clutch push rod fit new clutch bearing fit new clutch plates fit new clutch accessories (springs/bolts/washers) install new clutch fluid Need new tyres this year, but will deal with that in my own time. Later in the year I am also going to get cartridges installed in my front shocks as they are still stock and have felt atrocious ever since I bought the bike 7 years ago and the rear shock is shot, so I'll just get a new one to match the cartridges. This is the reason I am not going to ask for my forks or shock to be looked at in this major? service. Have I missed anything else important? I want to put some effort into my bike this year to give it a "refresh" as far as performance and mechanicals go. I have looked into getting my frame polished, engine re-painted, exhaust cera-coated and the cost has made me realise I really need to be in a good place mechanically before I put down the serious cash it's going to cost to give the bike a face lift. If it's of any help: (copied from recent service receipts) April 2021 - All fluids replaced, new oil filter, spark plugs, air filter cleaned, throttle cable lubricated, general lubrication carried out, chain and sprockets replaced, battery charged. October 2021 - New battery, new lighting fuse, lighting circuit cable repairs, (new timing belts, tensioners, tensioners bolts) installed.
