Simple question, can it be done? There's nothing about the way the bike rides that would indicate that it needs work but I doubt it's been out and looked at in the bike's 21 year life and the bump stop has totally disintegrated.
Yes, I believe so, tbh you can get the Showa versions (from the S) so cheaply that it might be worth getting one of those and getting it serviced
