Servicing Costs

  1. Hi all,

    New to the forum and to Ducati ownership. I have a tidy 796 Hyper which I picked up on Saturday, only 3200 miles on the clock and a recent oil and filter change.

    I use the bike as my daily transport to work and thus am thinking ahead to service costs. There seems to be so much variation, JHP for example in Coventry quoted over £600 for the belts and valve check service, yet I read other dealers offering it for less?

    Basically I am after ballpark figues which are what you would expect to pay for:
    Belts,
    Valves

    I guess an oil service would be around the normal £100 mark.

    My second question is will I need to get the bike mapped as I am running a full arrow system on the stock ECU mapping. I have read about Ducati Performance ECU's and remapping of the stock ECU. What is the general best option?

    I've got a HM796 too 2010,it's got nearly 8k on the clock and I had it when it was a few months old.
    The belts are done according to mileage,not time.I go to Doncaster Motorcycles for all my work,they are great.Kev is a Ducati trained mechanic,so he really knows his stuff.
    I've had my bike remapped,as it came with a racing ecu when I bought my Termis.Go and see Geoff at Hilltop Motorcycles,he's in Earlshilton near Mallory Park.He'll do your remapping,and set the bike up perfectly,does a cracking job,he's not cheap though.My bike now has the same hp as the 1100,which is plenty fast enough for me,I love twisty roads,so it's perfect. :upyeah:

    Are you sure that is correct being the recommended period is 2 years and your bike is now 5 years old?
     
  6. Kev at Doncaster was the one who told me it's mileage not time for the belts,so I've gone on what he's told me.I trust him tbh.
     
  7. Why not have a word with Neil at Cornerspeed? He really knows his stuff & I find he will discuss what needs doing according to mileage/time.

  8. Fair enough, from what I have read it is uncommon for a belt to actually snap, and like any motor belt if it is not run you will get tight spots around where the pully's are located.

    Just spoken to Cornerspeed in Notts and they were really helpfull with advice and pricing.

    Has anyone experience of the ducati performance ECU?

  9. He recommended replacement every 2 years. Really helpful at explaining the servicing schedules for the Ducs. First ducati for me, although the air cooled motors do seem quite simple.

  10. The ECU came with my termis,but had it remapped as per my first message,ECU settings don't always suit every bike,as it will have a generic setting.i've kept my standard one,in case I decide to sell.

  11. My GT1000 has the Termi kit with the DP ECU & modded airbox lid. Set up (without baffles) by Neil at Cornerspeed it runs brilliantly & sounds good too. :upyeah:
     
  12. Always a good idea to keep the standard parts if you change the exhaust & ECU. :upyeah:

  14. I have the DP ecu (end cans not full system one) I also have O2 eliminators fitted and it runs pretty smooth with lv decat, custom exhaust, modded exhaust and pipercross filter. If I keep the bike I may get a rapid bike evo and sell the DP ecu.

    Belts are supposed to be changed every 2 yrs regardless of mileage (according to Ducati). Apparently it is rare for a belt to snap but I've changed mine every 2 years but I don't use a main dealer.
    I had the belts changed (genuine parts) with full service (valves, brake fluid and pipercross air filter) for £400 in REPS performance
     
  15. Hi Nick,
    Belts every 2yrs (some folks seem to go to 3yrs, it’s a cost v risk decision), valve check/re shim every 7500mls, to have both done last summer at MD Racing in Surrey on my 796 was £340.
    If the bike still has the Cat and Lamda sensors fitted then I had no problems with the original ECU for 12mths / 3500mls, the only difference was the sound. After removing the Cat(http://www.moorespeedracing.co.uk/ducati-de-cat-pipes/ducati-hypermotard-leo-vince-de-cat.html) and fitting a K&N air filter the original ECU was remapped and the bike Dyno tuned by BSD Performance | The home of motorcycle performance tuning the difference the £350 spent made to the way the bike rode was quite incredible and worth every penny.

    Excellent and well groovy motorcycle repairers. Ducati specialists but have fixed many other interlopers. Met lots of happy customers, they even fixed my bootiful old Betty Beemer

    My go to place for Ducati servicing in London. Friendly, helpful, skilled and cheaper than dealers' rates. Can't recommend it enough!
     
  17. Neil at Cornerspeed is a very experiencec Official Ducati Service Agent, he can remap your ECU etc, also has a dyno if you want a before and after map.

    I use it as my daily commuter, however the Arrow system was just too noisy and as the bike did not have the correct map ran a little too lean at low RPM so throttle response was not great.

    I am selling the Arrow system so PM if you are interested.

    I am also going to sell the carbon bits which include:
    Carbon Hugger
    Carbon Front Mud Guard
    Carbon Exhaust Covers
    Carbon tank Cover
    Carbon Chain Guards - Mid and Rear

    The parts are nice but I don’t really need them as the bike is a workhorse.
     
  19. Defo 2 years and change the belts, not unknown for some belts to snap,but usually due to incorrect tension,but brittleness can also be a factor,which is part of the belts ageing process.
