Servicing - Do I really need all the Ducati tools?

  1. I want to start doing my own servicing. I found a workshop manuel but it is a Ducati one and it recommends all Ducati own tools, such as Timing Check Tool (£280) and the DDS (£3200) to do valve clearances, and reset that bloody service spanner.

Is there an alternative manuel out there that for my hypermotard? I can't find a Haynes one.

Are there alternative tools/procedures for doing the valves etc?

I know you can get diagnostic software for the laptop to do the basics. Has anyone got and used it? What can you do with it? Valves, service spanner etc.

  2. Don't know much about the later models but if there aren't any timing marks on the pulleys (I believe Ducati don't do them anymore) then I'd be marking them before I take the old belts off.

Can't see why you need anything special/electronic for valve adjustments? and I bet there's something you can download to your laptop for the service light?...
