Setting rearsets up

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by d8mok, Apr 1, 2012.

  1. Been for first ride since fitting rearsets today. Is there a guide on best way to set gears that anyone knows of? I got quite a few false neutrals and missed gears which I didn't get before.

    Cheers

  2. Hi Dom,

Was it on the up shifts or down shifts?

  3. On both mate. Mainly up shifts though

  4. I find that setting the shifter to the shortest amount of movement up and down is the best.

I got my mate to take a picture of my foot whilst I sat on the bike as I normally would on the paddock stand.

From that, I made sure the peg was just below the tip of my toes, then made sure that it only took no more than 2cm to shift up or down.

Made shifting MUCH smoother if I am honest. Hard to explain, but you will see what I mean.

It will take a good few sessions out followed by a bit of tweaking, but you will find the best position sooner or later.

  5. Freshage's suggestion is a good place to start and take notice of where the levers peg is.

It's also a good idea to do the photo thing as Freshage said, but before you remove the old pegs and linkages, to see where your feet were in relation to the old set up and compare them when fitting the rear sets.

    Too late now I know.

  6. Also to note, there is no 'generic' place or setting, it's simply down to how you sit and your foot position.

  7. cheera guys. Gonna have a play on wednesday. Feels like there is alot of movement in the lever before 1st engages. But surely if i move it along a few splines, i will add play in higher gears

  8. Is the gearbox operated by a linkage or by a lever direct on the splined shaft ? Linkages always feel looser than direct levers, but you may have to compensate by having an upside down "race" gearchange...., ie one up 5 down.....
