Changed my chain and sprockets today on the bike but the rivets haven’t ended up as I expected… I’ve got a Laser 4191 tool and the instructions are a bit shit and I can’t for the life of me see how to finish them off with the bits in the kit. Can anyone help?
I don't think that tool is for this kind of link with solid rivets. It's probably meant for hollow rivets which most chains now seem to have.
It looks like the chain tool you have is for hollow pins, like DID. The chain you have looks like a Tsubaki? They have a hard rivet link and need a different tool. It’s a punch with a V cut into it.
They do look undersized. From the instructions online looks like you have to use rivet tip N to shape the rivet but its not clear, as the rivet head size for a 525 is far removed from a rivet head for a cam chain. Using a DID KM500R or decent copy is likely to be a lot more simple, repeatable and reliable.
Yeah it’s a Tsubaki chain. Have you got the right tool?! If I drive up to you would you set it for a bit of cash?! Where from, have you got a part number by any chance?
This one I believe. https://www.motorcycleraceparts.co.uk/rivet-link-for-tsubaki-alpha-x-ring-gold-chain
Ok great, if I get chance tomorrow afternoon would I be able to drop in? I’ve got window fitters here but I think they’ll be gone for dinner all being well, if not Saturday morning? Need to chat about a few bits with you actually so would be handy!
Nelly sorted today (or rather his lad while we had a chat!), top man. I’ll make sure I buy a hollow split link next time though now I know they exist!
