Sf V4s - Leaking Front Brake Mc Banjo Bolt

Discussion in 'Streetfighter' started by nothingfaced, Sep 29, 2022.

  1. Took delivery of my new-to-me SF V4S from Ducati Cambridge after chucking in my Monster 1200R I've had from new. On the first ride it was clear that the chain was way too loose - I expect some chain-slap from the length of the swing arm, their demo had some but this was excessive.

Also noticed liquid beading on the front right side of the tank, battery cover and side panel. Wiped it off with a cloth and noticed the paint was bubbled and damaged. Only one thing that can do that, brake fluid. Applying pressure to the lever released brake fluid out of the banjo bolt, this why it didn't show on my inspection. It's back with them to fix.

    I imagine I've been unlucky.

  2. Hmm, unusual to get a leak at the banjo unless (at least on a relatively new bike such as yours), it has been disturbed for some reason or (again entirely possible), it was not torqued correctly (23Nm) or the copper washers failed. A myriad of possible culprits, not least of which was a very poor PDI by the dealer, who released it for sale. Have you also checked the reservoir cap. It is not unknown for the rubber diaphragm under the cap to have been refitted incorrectly / poorly seated or is torn or has a pinprick hole, which can allow fluid to weep out from under the cap and spray over the tank in a fine mist when riding.

  3. It was the brass crush washer that snapped when torqued down, you could see it clearly leaking from the washer when the lever was pulled. It was the fact they released it with a 'tick' in the PDI that bothered me.

They've sorted it, ordered new tank and panels and the done the chain and I'll take the bike back while we wait for Ducati UK to approve the warranty claim. Which will take a good few weeks no doubt.

  4. Service at Duc Cambridge has been going down hill imo. Waiting times for anything is like months. I've got a possible oil leak on my SFV4S, have to wait until November for it to be looked at. Booked in from early Sept! :astonished:

  5. I have had issues with them in the past, too. A 3 month lead time for service on the Monster.
They're very busy and am sympathetic to that. In this case they picked the bike up the day I registered the complaint, fixed the leak and delivered it back the next day. I don't think they could have done much more for me considering.

<though I never did get the free T-Shirt that was promised at POS :D >

  6. You can't ask for more than that, at least they sorted the leak, but for me it would just take the joy away of picking up a brand new bike. It shouldn't have happened in the first place.

I've only ever had a free coffee out of them lol!

  7. I agree - The PDI should have picked this up. And the chain - It wasn't a couple of millimetres out, it was bowing and the lash was audible through earplugs. Even the quickshifter was refusing to work.

It did soil the new-bike-purchase experience somewhat :)
