Hi, I have lost confidence in the front brake of my 2022 Streetfighter V4s. It doesn’t feel that there is any initial bite. It feels like the lever doesn’t firm up and feels a bit spongy although the dealer says they are all like it ! I’ve had different pads fitted that should be more “positive” but no different. I have just got a BMW M1000R and the brakes are awesome so makes me feel even less confident on the SF. the BMW feels like it’s stopping as the SF feels like it’s slowing down. Any ideas ?
If both machines have good pads and discs and fluids then it’s possibly the difference in feel from two different master cylinder ratios? I’ve just changed from a bike fitted with an RCS 19 to a bike fitted with a standard Ducati MC and the difference in feel (initial bite) is night and day. When you go for the lever on the new bike, it feels like half the lever travel does absolutely nothing. A good bleed and some fresh fluid and a racier set of brake pads may do the trick. Some riders like the more wooden on / off type that a bigger piston gives, some like the softer more progressive feel from a smaller piston.
The lever doesn’t seem to firm up and travels a lot . The progressive feel with the Brembos just doesn’t feel “right” and rather slows than stops. I might get another dealer to give the system a check before going for a RCS 19 master.
Sounds like the system needs bleeding. Have you messed about with the ABS settings to see if that makes any difference?
ABS=1 is for race, 2 is for road and 3 is for rain btw. Off is as it says. Description sounds like it needs a bleed at m/c. Possibly.
Very interesting thread. Comparing the bite and feel on my V2 Bayliss to my BMW s1000rr the difference is night and day. The BMW Nissin setup is far superior in all ways. I have experience on another similar Pani with track pads (GPFAX) fitted. That is brilliant ( easily as good as the BMW) but obviously no good for road as you don’t generate the heat. I am thinking of switching the Bayliss oe pads out for SBS Race Sintered as they are pretty aggressive but also ok for road. What pads did you switch to that did not make any difference?
Track pads? Or road pads? So many options on Brembo and they changed the names a while back so just checking to be sure.
Fast road/ track but the feeling is the same when stopped suggesting air but my dealer insists they have been bled and it’s how they all are !
The original fitment pads wouldn’t have been the same compound as the track ones you’ve fitted. They’d still have been HH rated and sintered but would be a compound designed to be at its most efficient at a lower operating temp ie that encountered in average road use.
