Shape Of Things To Come?

  1. Can’t open it but get the gist. But EV’s are a worry in the brave new world we’re going into. ‘Over the air software updates’ all sounds wonderful. But not so wonderful when you think about it.

  2. I can’t think of a single reason I’d want to drive a car around Paris in any case

  3. Driving around the peripherique is one experience I have no wish to repeat. Thankfully, I no longer have to travel to Paris for business. Retirement does have a few benefits :joy: Andy

  4. I have no problem with low speed limits in cities and residential areas, but I do want sensible speed limits on motorways and non-residential areas. I also want our motorways to be changed to be like US freeways, where you can overtake in any lane. Lane discipline is atrocious in UK anyway, and using all lanes to the full capacity would be like instantly building new roads across the entire network.

  5. Or get middle lane hogger wankers to do a retest

  6. You’re right, lane discipline nowadays is appalling. But if we clattered all the dozy bastards that hog the middle lane and block traffic in the fast lane, discipline should improve.

Personally I give a grace period then just undertake the dozy fuckers. And quite often they still just sit there….

  7. I was up in the borders last week and most of the built up areas are already at 20mph.

  8. Same here in Bristol and have been for years... Main reason for looking at a low-end remap for my Hyper - to get through the 20 zones more easily:confounded:

  9. I once had to take two American customers to a see a couple of projects we'd built in France.

They decided they wanted to stay in Paris on the Friday night. We were gridlocked (didn't move an inch) for 5 hours on the peripherique

  10. what with the threatened approach of E.V. we're not far from going full circle now, (p.i.) vehicles will be a cross between a tram and a bumper car. :upyeah:

  11. Welcome to the land of the socialist Scottish national party (that's a Nazi party isn't it?) where they can't even decide if they want you to do 20 or 30 mph.

Some areas 20 (or even less) makes sense but they are putting them all over the place and many are getting completely ignored - I've regularly seen maniac vans and even big lorries sitting at what I would guess 50 or 60 mph going past schools etc. and still using their mobile phones into the bargain.

  12. Ditto. Often with a long flash to try and educate them re their driving. But they invariably look back as if to say, "what on earth is your problem with me doing 65 in the middle lane of an empty motorway? And why have you come past me on that side you maniac, don't you know the Highway Code?..." There was talk of a big clampdown on lane discipline but I haven't seen its fruits. So while I've hitherto been against adopting the American freeway option I begin to see its upsides.

Precisely because of poor lane discipline a traffic copper once told me that they wouldn't bother nicking anyone for undertaking so long as you didn't change lanes aggressively to do it. I.e. if you're on the inside, just carry on past.

  16. Angus is SNP but it is the Scottish government that are pushing the 20 mph limits.

All our politicians are forgetting themselves - they are public servants, not the other way round. (Soon we will not even be allowed to say that though!).

  17. now that most your objectors have left or disappeared, - the above comment might just.... rest.

  18. SNP MP. tory led coaltion at councill level. they choose local trafic and speed policy. dude, it's cool. i know why folks think and say these things. i also get that folks dont like scotland specfic issues. :upyeah:

  19. When you look at a map of Angus most of it is large rural estates, that is where the council will be influenced from but most of the population will vote SNP - so it makes sense, sort of.

I fear a blanket 20 mph limit (rather than 30) will do more harm than good but common sense doesn't seem to enter in to it.

Here is a bit from the government website about the 20 mph limits:

Our road safety partners agreed a commitment within the Road Safety Framework to ‘Encourage local authorities to introduce 20 mph zones or limits in residential areas and areas of towns or cities with a high volume of pedestrians and cyclists’. This is set out in Transport Scotland’s Good Practice Guide on 20 mph speed restrictions, which encourages local authorities to introduce such measures where appropriate and this is being acted upon. The guidance can be found at: https://www.transport.gov.scot/medi...ctice-guide-update-version-2-28-june-2016.pdf
