So, I took the plunge & bought one. Apparently theyre designed for naked bike use, and with a hint of red in the colour scheme, thought itd be spot on for the Monster Evo. First impressions? Beautiful looking lid. Smart graphics & overall shape. Their work in the wind tunnel seems to have paid off, as theres hardly any buffeting on a naked bike. Nice fit & the visor is perfect - for seeing out of. Pity that if you click it shut when riding, you cant actually open it again without stopping! It seems impossible with gloves on as the clip is just too small & fiddly. Oh & the vents. Do they actually work? Both front flap & top switch appear to have no effect. Mine seem to be permanently open as its just cold & windy inside there. Which brings me on to the noise. On my first ride I had to pull over & remove the helmet as I swore blind my earplugs had sqweejed(?) out. Noisiest lid Ive ever used after 28 years of riding. I have the chin cover in situ, but that doesnt really help :-( Unfortunately you never get to discover any of these faults until youve took the lid out on the road & by then its too late to return :-( Wish Idve gone the Arai (or similar) route, but Ill give it a few more rides just in case. Just my opinion by the way. Someone else may get on better with theirs.
I bought a Shark a few years back, and whilst in the shop thought it was going to be great. And it was loads cheaper than my usual Arai choices. Absolutely hated it - uncomfortable, noisy, heavy, and not as good looking as an Arai or Shoei. I will never go there again. I'd rather pay twice as much to get something of real quality.
I had a fondle of one of those at the weekend and thought the clips a bit daft! However I have had a few Sharks including two S900's, the ones with the visor, and found them pretty darn good! Each to their own of course!
It actually fits me well, its the noise that does me in. That & the poxy visor clip. Ooh & the vents.
You have my sympathy, I have an Arai Quantum Italian Flag version which I use on the Ducati, but for some reason I deceide to buy a Shark Race R Pro to use on the Triumph being a more Sports Tourer lid. The visor catch as you say is rubbish, the "anti fog " visor isn't..........................the magnetic end on the strap dosent stay put and bangs about, the vents are horrible stick on bits of sharp plastic that aren't properly attached, its noisy, and the user manual English language section is uter gibberish. But it looks nice Never again.Arai all the way in future.
I was Shoei and then I was Arai. And then I was poor and became Shark. I have an RX7 Foggy Rep or something. It looks good, it's comfortable and quiet. But the vents are rubbish and it steams up all the time. Vents are so poor you don't know whether they are open or closed. So I have bought a Foggy neoprene mask to solve the misting. Now it makes a great, cosy beginning and end of season helmet but the mask is way too hot for summer and it still doesn't vent. I thus returned to Arai and bought a top of the range Gary McCoy rep. Frankly, it's rubbish: way too noisy, too pricey, thinnish visor. It's not a patch on the Quantum Haga rep I used to have. So you can't trust a name or a price point. If there's one thing you should be able to try before you buy, it's a helmet. Can you, anywhere?
Arai 5 Star dealers had a test ride the helmet scheme going a while back, dunno if they still do that, but its the only way to avoid dissapointment.
I love my Shark Race R Pro, it's my second Shark and although I'd obviously embarrassing myself by showing how poor I am whilst riding I love it. I agree that the magnetic strap holder doesn't although I simply slide it inside the outer sleeve (well us poor folk have to improvise) other than that it's great, no problems at all with misting or not being able to open the visor.
My older Shark S800 has been fab in regards to the amount of extra vision and brilliant anti-mist visor(way better than any Shoei i've had). Wind noise about average, better than 2 Shoei's i got. And the fit is great. My vents are a bit poop, especially the front one, maybe a Shark trait. And Shark S800 is higher at the back than my Shoei's(Raid and XR1000) which is great when i was on a sportsbike as your not straining your neck too much to keep your head up. Thing i found with my Shark, the more i used it, the more i grew to love it.
Any update on this? I'm a Shoei man through n' through (last 5 lids) but Shark are doing a Foggy 20th anniversary (see foggy's twitter page - or mine for that matter, for pics) which i really like the look of. But after years of Shoei (currently an XR100 and a X-Spirit) will the Shark seem a poor relation? Any and all opinions welcome...
I brought a shark R at christmas as it was a steal at £200,I use it for attaching my drift camera and for night use only.cracking helmet me thinks
I'd be surprised if there was a lid currently on sale that hasn't been the subject of some internet consumer reviews. When the supply of Schuberth C2 flips finally dried up ( I reckon I got the last one available from George White's for £200 shortly before they went tits-up) I did some research on-line and settled on the Nolan N104, which are £265rrp. Got one on fleabay for £160, still had the safety stickers on it (tried one for fit and ability to stick the Scala on the side in HG just before they went tits-up as well .... if you have a shop selling lids don't let me through the door!). Anyway, it confirms virtually every opinion expressed in the on-line reviews and, I think, is a nicer lid than the C2 and less than half the price of the latest Schuberth. Brilliant.
Ive got a SHARK SPEED R which I have been using for appx 2 months now. I recently had to rond trip 4 hr journeys in torrential rain. Great helmet, i use it every day on the hack bike ( 1200 tenere ) and ive had zero issues. I also had a Shark RSR 2 carbon before this, again, 3/4 yrs use, flawless. I will buy the Shark Race R Pro soon too... My arai chaser weighs about 3 times the shark is nowehere near as good quality and comfort inside.
Im on my third Shark helmet and have found them fantastic.Dont really want to buy anything else.Ive just gotta try and find another older foggy rep when mine needs replacing as I really like the design.
Many thanks that will be no1 on my order list as my other two are getting a bit old now especialy the earlier version .The later one could just do with a new lining and cheek pads so can keep as a spare.
