Hi all, Been messing around with my old 998, went to start her up and......nothing. Fuel pump primes ok, side stand up, press start button.....dead. Ive had the side stand off, is there something ive done wrong there? Does the ECU send the signal to the start solinoid? Could the ECU be U/S. Any way to check, before getting a new ECU????? Cheers, Billy
Wow, early days for blaming the ecu. Lots of things to check first, surely. If it was fine before messing with the side stand and not afterwards, sounds like a good starting point. Does it make any difference if you pull the clutch in??
Probably nothing. May be worth a try if the ecu thinks the side stands up though. Although it would also have to think the bike was in gear for the side stand to be relevant. You haven't knocked the kill switch?
Update on startting problem on the 998. Sorted now. Went out this morning same problem, wont start. Had a look at the wiring diagram, cranking the engine has nothing to do with the ECU. Earth for the starter solinoid comes through the side stand switch. 12V comes from the start button. So split the plug down at the solinoid. The earth was coming through OK and I had 12 volts when hitting the start button. Faulty solinoid?? Put 12 volts accross the solinoid, and she turned over. So reconnected plug and tryed again. Hey presto!! started 1st time!!!! Strange one, Cheers
Yes thats what it must of been, ive had the same thing happen on my old 900SS, I dont think thoose starter solioids are 100 percent??
I recently put my bike back together as the starter motor failed. Once the starter was back on it would not turn over. I also found that cleaning the single spade connector was dirty, once i cleaned it up with sandpaper. The starter turned it over. Sounds like either you had bad connections or the solenoid stuck? vinnychoff
