I was lucky enough to see both of the legends ride these bikes: http://www.motorcyclenews.com/MCN/N...2-video-silverstones-greatest-race-revisited/
I'm lucky enough to have seen Roberts, Sheene battles too, also the greats like Schwantz, Rainey, Lawson, Spencer, Mamola and many more, those were the days and showing my age too, never seen Rossi race though But I was thinking of the classic Sheene Roberts battle that everyone must have seen, where Murray Walker spits out in his excitment about Sheene is waving at Roberts ... (he was flicking him the V fingers quite clearly) it was a great race, but I saw a documentary about Barry Sheene where I'm sure it was Kenny Roberts claimed most of that close race was pre agreed and fabricated between Sheene and him? did anyone see that or am I imagining it? it was agreed to demonstrate close racing for the wider benefit of the sport until near the end then they should go for it apparently. It was a stunning close race to the finishing line though for sure and I remember the actual race well. Here are highlights, well worth the watch if you have not seen it.
I loved those races too ... anyone remember Yamaha RD350 Pro Am, that was a great series in the UK, totally fair, different bike (still an RD 350 LC) to each rider each round maintained by Yamaha, close close racing and helped many a struggling UK rider climb the ladder. EDIT: Heh, and even this is on You Tube too, sure made our Nial McKenzie.
