  1. Has anyone here tried these?

    ST527 1199/1299 SUBFRAME COVER SET- MATTE - Shift-Tech Carbon

Just interested to knwo if they do actually reduce the heat on the subframes to any noticeable extent and perhaps more importantly if it is the subframe absorbing heat, rather than the exhaust itself which causes the heat build up around the insides of the thighs.

I notice there is a waiting time to order so seems many are trying them.

  2. It is the exhaust, not the subframe that is cooking your thighs. Yes, the subframe warms up, along with pretty much everything else around there, but nowhere near as hot as the curling exhaust pipe. There is some very smart looking silver/grey wrapping tape made from either carbon fibre or glass fibre lookee likee. We've used it on a number of specials that have gone through the workshop and it seems good at it's job as well as looking techie.... plus it doesn't go fluffy or grubby like the soft, white wrap does. You'll need to use the rope knotter's technique of using a loop of fine wire to pull the end into the wrap when finishing it off, otherwise just an artist's eye and an engineer's hand are all else required.

  3. They don't look much more than frame covers to dress the subframe....... Can't see how they will reduce the heat at all tbh. It's still going to be there and it's transferred by radiating to the riders legs. They might get in the way a bit, but like Stevenson says, the header pipe is a much bigger issue. It's that that's heating the frame up.
If they were any good, they'd have stock. If they're making to order then they ain't selling many ;)

  4. Get the headers ceramic coated, try Zircotec, or Camcoat.

  5. Helps but still gets a bit hot. image.jpg

  6. Only a thought, but if the shield was heat resistant white, it wouldn't radiate as much heat.
