Shoei Gt Air

Good lids. That was a bargain. The only issue I've had with mine one year in is that the visor no longer locks by using the finger tab on the bottom edge. The nib on the visor won't pass over the corresponding nib on the helmet and lock the visor shut as it is supposed to but slides to one side, so the visor isn't sealed and whistles. The only way to make it lock is either to place the whole hand over the visor and push down or pull down with the fingers on the top edge. Neither is ideal because it means obscuring your vision with your hand.
Its quite annoying actually and its got me thinking about a new lid next year. I've cleaned everything, lubed the seal and tried a new visor but it hasn't helped. Shoei ought to change the design because otherwise its a superb lid. Very comfortable, quiet and light.
My only suggestion to avoid this is to keep everything clean and regularly treat the seal with the lube supplied to keep it supple.

 

Not that impressed by mine. Find it a wee bit noisy(more so than the Aria Quantum it replaced) and it's difficult to squeeze a pair of specs into the lining. Flip down sun visor is great and that's why I bought it.

 

Guys, thinking of getting a GT Air this year to replace my Shoei Quest. Is the internal sun visor remaining scratch free? I pressume it's scratch resistant, like the main visor?

I have the GT Air as well, find it quiet even compared with the Schuberth S2.... only problem I have is that the internal visor mists up easily and takes a while to clear which is pretty annoying. It could also do with a tab on both sides of the main visor so it can be opened with either hand .

 

I picked up one at the show (Excel?) too, but cheapest I could find a Graphics version was £340, was supposedly this years design (which I couldn't give a damn if it was), at £299 that's a steal.

 

I bought one in the summer, lovely fit and quiet compared to my previous Shoei. Not used the visor enough to check it remains scratch free, I hope so!

 

I had one too same as the pic at beginning of thread, I found it very quiet and comfortable.
Never had problem with inner visor misting mind you I don't do much winter riding

 

Just got mine recently, find it very comfy indeed, not as quiet as I hoped but still very nice. The internal visor does mist up a bit though.

 

A very helpful chap at Helmet City in West Bay had a look at my GT today. I hadn't realised the visor pivots are adjustable. A twiddle with a screw driver and a minute realignment seems to have cured the visor locking issues. Thank you Helmet City. If that problem is solved I won't be rushing too replace the helmet just yet.
I do think one of these would go quite well with the Streetfighter though...

 

Just had to return my GT under warranty. Took the removable pads out for washing and found the tabs the cheek pads fix to which should be bonded to the shell have become detached and the pads won't go back in. The Visor still isn't locking either. Asked them to look at that as well. Infinity sent it back no quibble.
Annoying but on the other hand a 5 year warranty, which is effectively the life of the helmet anyway, is pretty good. If they can fix it and return it promptly I shall be happy.

 

GT Air in Red and love it. Very quiet, light enough and comfortable on an all day ride. I've had a string of Arais and Shoei didn't fit my head until I tried this one on. The aerodynamics are superb for me on the Multistrada. Over 80mph it seems to get quieter? Must be screen/helmet interaction.

Sun visor is great when needed but I still like a visor sticker to block out a low sun completely. No sign of it scratching and never misted up (apart from my glasses the other night) with a pinlock.

 

Bought mine when they 1st came out, I've done about 7000 miles with it, its not as quite as I was lead to believe, but not bad. The sun visor works brilliant and no signs of scratching, I agree that i does mist up easy, but sorted that with some anti-mist spray for visors. The pinlock visor is good and the ventilation tabs work really well.
they bounce pretty well too, as i found outer the other week, when I put it on the wall whilst I sorted bike out.
Gust of wind blew it off. One small chip and couple of scratches on the visor. :-(

 

Wore mine for the first time today, light, quiet and good air flow.
Impressed.

 

Just tried my new purchase GT Air today on my new Monster.
Great fit etc but has anyone else found that the top air vent creates a fair bit of wind noise? Really annoying and disappointing after all the reviews about it being quiet. I use plugs too so. Fine if you tip your head down looking at the clocks, but noisy when riding normally.

I did wonder about that with the design.

I have attached some specially designed wind reducing material (black electrical tape) to cover the vents! See what difference that makes. Not hot enough for me to worry about additional ventilation yet.

 

Got mine back form the warranty claim last week. Week to ten days, they said. Turned out to be seven weeks.
They've cured the visor locking issue and hopefully it will stay fixed. It is a better lid than the AGV I bought as a spare. Its a better fit, quieter and draft-free. But I'm struggling to stop the visor misting.

 

Have you fitted a pin lock?

 

Yes. I took it off and cleaned the visor (not the pinlock insert) both sides with Wurth visor foam which usually stops fogging. Its better but not cured. The AGV fogs upto the edge of the Pinlock but this one's fogging behind it. The pinlock can't be sealing onto the visor. It is due a new visor soon as this one's getting scratched so I'll see if that helps. If not its a new pinlock insert as well. Gets expensive though.. The visors on their own aren't cheap..

 

I've found a little glycerol helps on the pin lock edges.
