I read fairly mixed reviews and ended up staying with the X Spirit II which I got at the motorcycle show last year. Certanly the NXR doesn't seem to have been that popular and the idea it would be used by the Moto 2 and 3 riders didn't go down too well. The new X Spirit III is due in March/April and although I'm not a huge fan of the Alien shell shape, I will look to upgrade at the show next November/December. Andy
My mate has one and loves it, it's a tiny shell as well which is pretty cool. I have the x-spirit 2 which I like but tbh for everyday stuff i wear my Arai chaser as its just so comfortable
I liked the Chaser V when I put it on, was super plush, but I hear bad reports on Arai, bits falling off, etc. I struggle to spend this sort of cash on myself so thinking vi will avoid Arai as this helmet wants to last about 5 years.
It's your call, I agree that side pods are an unnecessary complication but it's a good everyday lid. I think the complication comes when people try and change visors are several years when all the fittings are brittle
Seriously, take a look at xlite 802r. After years of shoei and arai, I tried one and was very impressed. In fact I have just ordered another one
I've always been an Arai man. However this year when I decided to get a new helmet I could not believe how light and quiet the NXR was in comparison when I tried it on. I needed the largest cheek pads to be fitted to get the fit on my head just right but I have not regretted getting the NXR. Very light and quiet and of course comfortable.
I got a Shoei NXR this year as soon as they applied the discounts and love it. It's the only helmet I've ever tried that fits my mug perfectly. I've wanted one since they first came out around the time I got my licence but couldn't warrant spending five hundred odd quid. Also the reflective visor is the coolest thing I've bought haha. There are pictures on my photo section in here.
I went out yesterday wearing my new NXR. First impressions are that its much quieter then my X-Spirit II and maybe less buffeting? Certainly feels lighter which it is slightly. Impressed so far.
My girlfriend has two of them. They are very light to say the least. Both have been great helmets, quiet and comfortable and she can recommend them. Managed to get another at this years motorcycle live for £269. Bargain if you ask me.
£215 is cheapest I can find. £250 in colour I like best. Will wait a couple of days in case of any new sales........
Are you going to Excel in Feb? Likely get a good deal as when I bought my Shoei there the chap selling said they won't put the price he could do it for up on his website as if he did the manufacturers get the jump if it's to cheap and pull the license to resell. I paid £330 on a £459 lid with free Shoei beenie.
Yes, I got that same spiel when I was looking at a replacement X Spirit II and got a better deal at a stand run by another well known helmet retailer. Definitely agree that the Excel is a good place to buy but IMO it pays to compare prices at the various stands and haggle. I ended up paying £280 for my X Spirit II which I was well chuffed with. I run an NXR2 Bradley Smith colours. It's a decent helmet, and I picked mine up at the bike show for about £250 iirc. The venting's good and the wind noise is lower than my HJC RPHA10+ Carbon As with all helmets, the fit is very specific, and although it fits my head well, it might not fit yours, so try one on. The only real niggle I have is that the lower breath visor touches my nose (I have a pretty normal size nose I think ), so I removed that, and with the pin lock, I don't get any misting anyway I'm yet to try it on a hot day though, so I'll have to wait until next summer to see if my head cooks in it or not Editted ; Found the receipt, it was £280, plus £30 for a spare tinted visor and pin lock
