I've just got a short carbon hugger and will fit to my 848 tomorrow, I'm not with the bike right now and wondered how easy it is to uncap the holes in the swingarm. I seem to remember they are currently covered. Any tips to remove them, are they screwed in or pushed in etc ?
I had the DP hugger from new on the 1098 so can't tell you if they are plugs or screws Can say its a bit of a pig getting to one of the fasteners, think its the one on its own, but just take it slow. As I remember they are M5s just show a bit of prudence as it would be quite easy to strip them.........then it would be a swinging arm out jobbo. Removing the arm is not a huge job but its not what you'd want if you're preparing the bike for the summer Sorry that's probably not much help John
Pretty sure they are little push in caps and they are fairly easy to get out from what I remember. Think I extracted mine with a sharpish screwdriver with a bit of electrical tap wrapped close to the top to minimise the chances of scraching the arm IIRC.
Mine popped out easily with a small pick but screwdriver would be equally as good. I purchased some bolts from pro-bolt to fit mine but can't recall if they were m4 or m5.
Yep as above. Plastic plugs just pop out. The bolt on the right side behind the heat shield is a swine so do that one first so you can move the hugger into the right place. You can then use the flex in the hugger to line up the holes closest to you and get the bolts in.
Thanks for the replies everyone going to get the bike all cleaned up today and then get this fitted. Not sure it's going to make much difference to keeping the shock and rear end any cleaner as it's about the same size as a postage stamp, but at least it's made of carbon :Meh:
Is it the DP hugger? If you find its too short, Conquest Carbon do a good one. Its bigger than the DP one and not horrendously long. http://conquestcarbon.co.uk/product/ducati-848-1098-1198-satin-carbon-fiber-hugger/ It looks like this on
As others have said, they are just pop out clips. The single bolt is a horror, so make sure you fit that first so that you're not fighting the hugger itself - The two bolts on the chain side are much easier (and it's easier to pull the hugger into place and fit these two bolts) The bolts for a push bike bottle holder are the same M5 x 20 bolts needed for fitting the hugger, and I ordered titanium bolts for a bottle cage for less than I could get aluminium bolts from pro Bolt
All fitted now and thanks everyone for the help, the exhaust side single bolt is a total bitch to do but I got there in the end.
