Nope it burnt out. Had a fault on the fans a while back. While sorting them I noticed that the dash and headlight were momentarily going out (1098) as I warmed it up to trip the fans in After a bit of searching and googling it was an indication that the rec/reg might be on the way out I decided whilst in there to put a MOSFET on it. Didn't want cheap Chinese but found a German race team selling them. I think they sold me cheap Chinese for the price of a decent aftermarket jobbie Fast forward to last Thursday. Went for a ride round Belgium and on the way back to Zeebrugge decided to stop off in Blankenburg for a coffee. Riding into town the bike cut out at a junction. It also got pretty warm. Tried to restart it but the battery was flat. I let it cool down a bit and tried again luckily it just caught and started so I went straight back to the ferry. It was pushed on and off the ferry and rescued from Hull. Funny bit was I was last off the boat and when I went through immigration Told me to get a move on cos customs were locking the gates. I had quite a few sleeves of Benny hedges on the rack. Customs helpfully pushed me to the terminal building holding onto the fags
That is priceless . Difficult to know what you are buying blind of t'internet? Glad you got back okay. Andy
I bought one from a bloke in the US rather than the cheapo Chinese one off amazon. SHINDENGEN FH020AA REGULATOR /REPLACES FH012AA VERSION & YAMAHA 1D7-81960-00-00 | eBay Hopefully it is a pukka good one....
The reason they are potted is to resist vibration and the associated faults. It also helps with waterproofing. Did the potting lift or did you do that? I suspect it got so hot it lifted itself. Loads of vehicles have crappy power control of fans....my old LDV van was one of them. The MOSFETS tend to blow "closed" on DC circuits keeping the power on...hence the failed battery.
