I'm looking to use my phone as a sat nav in conjunction with a bluetooth intercom using this Motorcycle Bike Mount with Waterproof Case and Hard Wire Charger for Samsung Galaxy S2 - rather than a dedicated GPS unit (Garmin, Tom Tom etc). The issue I'm having is where to mount it. Does anyone have a solution and can you please post some pix. Ta :biggrin:
you can get zipped neoprene waterproof cases on ebay. they have like a belt hoop on the back. I jzust cable tied it to my top yoke when I needed to. soft material didnt mark anything
You can try something like this. Have in mind that i' m using Andys wind screen spacers so there is some space between the windscreen and the attachment. Make sure that your case fits horizontally between the two wind screeen path bars. (pic - iphone 4 case) Flatten the base of the attachment. Drill or grind 4 paths for the two cable ties. Use the rubber included in the attachment for it to rest on. Tie with cable ties.
Similar for me, but I have stuck some super strength velco to the top of the handlebar clamp and to the underside of the iPhone case (waterproof one from eBay). Stick them together and bob's your uncle... Bonus is that it is easy to rip off when you leave your bike! I guess it's a little bit wobbly, but it does the trick!
I have the Ducati (Garmin) satnav, but also that iPhone 4 cover, which does keep all but the worst weather out. I personally would struggle to see the iPhone well enough on the bike as a satnav though? View attachment 16392 Unfortunately, my iPhone 4 had a recent, terminal interface with a beer in Brussels and my old iPhone 3 doesn't fit in the case!

I have a sat nav issue I like to air (!). Like a cheapskate I bought a Garmin Nuvi 2495 car unit with a view to mounting it in a waterproof case on my Muliti's handlebars. That part was fine. But I don't like looking anywhere but the road ahead and the sat nav is pretty useless in bright sunlight so I want to relay the voice guidance into my helmet. Turns out the Bluetooth on the Garmin will only pair with a phone and not my Bluetooth intercom and, of course, there is no headphone jackplug on the Nuvi. So, to the point, has anyone used those air tube headphones and is it possible just to tape the open end of the tube to the sat nav and hear the voice guidance through the headset? Of course, another solution would be to listen to the route on Google maps with my phone in my pocket. But the data charges would be horrendous when I'm abroad! Hope someone can help re the air tube headsets.
On my car tomtom, you dont pair the bluetooth to your phone,its in the speaker options in the menu, it say units speaker, bluetooth device or FM modulator ? I know yours is a garmin, but may be a different way needed to pair it ? Cant help with air tube question, sorry
I've not tried the tube headphone things, so can't help there, but what I would suggest is using one of the following apps for your iPhone as they have the full map on the phone and don't need Internet access to work, and therefore there won't be any roaming charges. Navfree - as the name suggests, it's free! (I've used this in the US and it is pretty good - you have to download one per country I think). CoPilot - this costs £35 but is a the one recommended by all the magazines. TomTom - £54. Having said all that, the best navigation app for the iPhone (in my opinion!) is Waze. You will get roaming charges with this, but the app is awesome!! At the very least, use Waze for all your UK needs!
As far as i am aware none of the iphone software allows for multiple waypoints tho, as you would plan if you were touring etc, fine for a A-B trip ?
