I have a '93 900SS with the adjustable Showa forks, which work fine except for a leaking seal which I'm about to replace. I've noticed that when the rebound adjusters (the brass screw on the top - pic) are set at an equal number of clicks they have different amounts showing. They seem to work fine but it looks a bit odd / cant be correct to have one sticking up further than the other. What's going on? Is there something I can adjust/fiddle with while the forks are apart? TIA Stu
Wavey Dave does a strip down of these type of forks in one of his 748 refresh videos [LINK]. Should be a relatively easy fix.
Some of the early Showa Forks had Compression damping in one leg and rebound damping in the other. I honestly can’t remember which bikes it applies to, but I’m sure somebody will shout soon now I’ve mentioned it.
I did change the oil in my 94 900SS fork MANY years ago, I seem to recall there was something you could get wrong when putting them back together so that there was an unequal amount of adjusting clicks on each leg, but I can't remember the details. Have you checked if both have the same number of clicks now, or are you just working from one end of the adjustment range?
