I would like to refresh the rear shock on my 93 Superlight preferably with some updated internals and a spring tailored for my weight. I realise I could put in a more modern unit for a similar cost but I would like to keep it looking stock. Any advice gratefully received.
A Hyperpro spring may be a good idea - as for the internals, I suggest you take it to a specialist for three reasons. 1) Finding the right original parts isn't easy, but a specialist will know what to use if he can't find original parts. 2) A specialist will know whether it needs re-valving or not. 3) A specialist will re-charge it with nitrogen (the correct gas) to the right pressure. Hi Al thanks for your reply, I am intending to give it to a pro for the rebuild and was hoping someone on here has already done similar. Would I be right in thinking the unit is the same as a standard SS despite the fact mine only has one seat.? Out of interest do you know what the standard spring rate is.? Simon.
No but I think thats who Id use. I looked at using them myself but trying to keep current buuld costs down
IIRC the spring rate is the same for basic 900 as it for SL. If you give the Hyperpro website a good search, it will tell you exactly which spring is required for your model and year. I reckon you need the SP-DU09-SSB001 spring - the other shocks are Ohlins or White Power which appear to have been fitted over the years as well. But they will always advise you if you contact them.
R&C...regarding Brook Suspension. I had my Triumph (RWU) forks rebuilt by them. I had K-tech springs/adjusters fitted and the fork bottoms coated black. Top notch job and a very professional outfit.
I used these last May for my 848 Ohlins rebuild with new spring, i found them very professional and knowledgeable, Based in Braintree Essex, FTR Suspension - Motorcycle suspension, products & servicesftrsuspension.co.uk/
Many thanks for everyone's input, plenty to think about, I think I will have a call round see what's on offer.
I've used Brooks for my 748 and found them great but on a recent thread a few posters said they weren't so happy... this probably doesn't help you a lot..
